Questions about the Ufc's heavyweight division etc.

I was kind of curious about how making weight for the heavyweight division works. Isn't it 235 and up? Or is there a cut off somewhere? Do the fighters need to be a certain weight for a title fight? Kinda confused on this matter because other divisions are a little different when it comes to making weight.

And also...
How does the UFC rank their fighters? I see rankings all over the internet, but is there a place I can go to, to find what the UFC ranks the fighters? I heard that sherdog is the website to go to...
not sure about it, just lookin for some answers:D

Most organizations the Heavyweight division is from 206lbs-265lbs.

As for the UFC rankings, anywhere you go is most likely going to always have different rankings. I think the best and most accurate place to look at rankings would be SHERDOG or MMAWEEKLY.

The HW division is 206 lbs. through 265 lbs. All you have to do to make weight at HW is be between those numbers. The weight-in's on The Ultimate Fighter this year are more of a formality than anything else.

The UFC does not officially rank fighters. They don't even really go by anyone's rankings, they just make the fights they think people want to see. If you are looking for rankings though, try Sherdog.com, MMAWeekly.com, and FightMatrix.com. Those 3 are a pretty good jumping off point.

If you haven't been to fightmatrix.com, give it a try. They use a computer system to do the rankings similar to the BCS in college football. It is interesting and very thorough.

Not a fan of Sherdog rankings, they seem really partial to the UFC.

I like Fightmatrix's rankings as well. They are deep (I think they go past 100), and should be unbiased because they are done by a computer formula. That occasionally gives us some strange rankings (Kitaoka was ahead of Penn for a while I think), but I can live with that.

Another good place to look is Bloody Elbow. They do a consensus top 25 along with USA Today.

The UFC would never put out rankings themselves, because they wouldn't want to be tied to them. Well, I suppose I shouldn't say never, because they could put them on their website or in their magazine to generate interest, with guys like Shogun and Carwin ranked #2 in their divisions.

Fight Matrix is far from perfect, but their rankings are very deep and always interesting.
