Let the talks begin.

Formal negotiations in an effort to make a megafight between pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the first part of 2010 will open Monday, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told ESPN.com.

Jones and Hopkins did the exact same deal... The winner gets the rest of the purse...

Surely this would go down as the super fight of this generation (or past couple of decades). Do you think there's a chance it won't happen?

I havent really followed boxing since De La Hoya was on top, but this I will definetly watch. The biggest fight since Leonard/Hagler.

It will happen. There's way too much money involved. I actually don't think money will be the issue here. It will get done at 50/50 or 45/45 with the winner getting the other 10%. If either side insists on 60/40 or higher, that's just a way of saying "I don't want the fight." Both guys would be making more at 45% than they would at 80% for any other fight. I actually think a bigger hangup would be whether to call the fight Mayweather-Pacquiao or Pacquiao-Mayweather.

It'll take place in a temporary 30,000-40,000 seat stadium on the Vegas strip or at Cowboys Stadium. They could try to break the in-door boxing attendence record at Jerryworld, but in the end I think they stay in Vegas. There going to be a ton of high-rollers at this event and I'm sure the casinos will match anything Jerry Jones offers them.

Don't be surprised if Ellerbe doesn't do exactly that.

Pacquiao tested clean following Nov. 14 TKO win over Cotto

NEW YORK (SI.COM) -- Seven time world champion Manny Pacquiao tested clean following his Nov. 14 TKO win over Miguel Cotto, SI.com has learned.

Mayweather Sr., Floyd's father and trainer, told SI's Chris Mannix that he believed Pacquiao's ability to take Cotto's powerful shots and keep coming proved the champion was taking performance-enhancing substances. "I know Floyd is the best," said Mayweather Sr. "But when [your opponent] uses something illegal, even the best can get hurt."

Floyd Sr. offered no evidence to support his claim.

Leonard Ellerbe, CEO for Mayweather Promotions, says a possible May clash with WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao will be an easy fight for Floyd Mayweather Jr. Both sides are expected to begin negotiations this week. Ellerbe believes that Pacquiao will get outboxed in the same manner as the two fights with Juan Manuel Marquez and the first meeting with Erik Morales. Ellerbe denied any and all reports of Mayweather taking any type of tuneup fight. He says Mayweather will march straight to a fight with Pacquiao or face the winner of the January 30 bout between Andre Berto and Shane Mosley.

“[It] probably will be one of Floyd’s easier fights. They say styles make fights but guess what? Skills are what win fights,” Ellerbe said to the Grand Rapids Press. “The fight is not a problem in the ring. Pacquiao is a good little fighter but Floyd is just on a whole other level. If we can make a deal, we’ll see. If he got outboxed by Erik Morales, if he got outboxed by Juan Manuel Marquez, how the hell is going to deal with Floyd Mayweather? He’s never, ever, been in the ring with anyone who has anywhere near the skills Floyd Mayweather has.”

Ellerbe says the public and the media is overhyping Pacquiao. He wants them to remember the historical comparisons after Mayweather wins the fight.

“People can put things in your mind and make you think you’re something you’re not,” Ellerbe said. “It was interesting to me, after the Pacquiao-Cotto fight, to hear journalists comparing Pacquiao to the likes of Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali. I want those same journalists to remember those words after the next fight, if a deal can be struck and this fight comes off.”

Ellerbe is so full of shit...

If you want people to put you in the same breathe as Robinson and Ali.... you actually have to fight the best and not fight guys like Carlos Baldomir.

The translation on that link is wrong, btw. The poster of that video said that

"Manny: Painfull for his son because of the false accusations that he (Mayweather Sr.) did to me. "

That's not the correct translation. Reading that makes you think that Manny is being cocky, which he was absolutely not. What he actually said was something to the likes that the fight against Mayweather is going to be more than just a boxing fight for Manny, but a little more personal compared to his other fights due to him being offended/hurt by Mayweather's words.

The much-anticipated bout between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao is all but set for March 13, a source told Yahoo! Sports.

Good to see this get done amid the rumors.

I think ESPN is saying May 1st is also a possibility.

Assuming March 13 is the day, do you feel that it's enough time for either fighter to train?
