Strikeforce - Evolution (December 19th)

This card just got another great addition to it and thought I'd start up the discussion.

Main Card:
* Josh Thomson (16-2) vs. Gilbert Melendez (16-2) (unification fight)
* Cung Le (6-0) vs. Scott Smith (16-6)
* Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza (10-2) vs. Matt Lindland (21-6)
* Robbie ‘Ruthless’ Lawler (16-5) vs. TBA
* Muhammed ‘King Mo’ Lawal (5-0) vs. Mike Whitehead

If they can find a decent opponent to give Lawler a fight then should be a great card. Definitely excited for the Thompson/Melendez fight, and interested to see what Cung Le does out there.

Also pulling for Jacare to make a splash in the SF scene. Maybe a possible rematch with Mousasi down the line??

Anyways, it airs at 10pm on Showtime for you folks that have it, just cross your fingers all of these fights hold through.

I'll believe Thompson fighting when he is introduced by the PA announcer. He has pulled out of something like 3 fights in a row.

Great card if it holds though.

Yeah he's going to be a question mark especially after pulling out of their previously scheduled rematch, but he seems like he really wants to get this fight over with.

“I want to get this whole interim title thing dissolved,” Thomson told MMAWeekly.com in a prior interview. “I want all the complications of, who’s the champ and who’s not the champ… I mean, everyone knows that I am, but I’ve been inactive for a year and he deserves what he’s been given, but it’s time to put it all to a close.

“I’d rather fight him my first fight back and I can move on with my career and he can move on with his.”

So here's hoping...

So Cung Le is not the champ right now? He gave that up right?

Though, I won't hold my breath that this is the strikeforce card we'll see, they always seem to have a lot of pull outs. If it stays the same though will be an excellent card.

great card. Hopefully another win from King Mo and Cung Le will put them in title contention.

In Strikeforce, King Mo is a title contender as long as he is...

A) 205 pounds
B) Breathing

Yeah, he gave it up so that he could originally pursue a movie career. Somehow that turned into him fighting on this card first and then pursue acting. Which has ultimately led most to believe he's protecting his record and mystique as a fighter, by dodging tougher competition/bad matchups (as Shields would be).

Le says he had a movie, that was going to keep him out for a year and a half, fall through and now he has like a year before it starts.

One thing is for sure, Strikeforce will do everything in their power to make sure they only match Cung Le up with people who they are sure will not try to take him down.

Yes but if he keeps winning it will only be a matter of time before they can avoid giving him another title shot. And personally, i'd take the underdog on Le vs Shields.

Cung Le would spend the entire fight on his back doing nothing IMO. Strikeforce knows this, which is why even though Shields has begged for this fight, I doubt it will happen.

But how many more victories can Cung Le get in Strikeforce without ever getting a title shot?

I say 2. That or he leaves Strikeforce to fight somewhere else or does another movie.

And Cung Le has a wrestling and takedown background as well, not to mention bone breaking striking. I wouldnt count him out so easily.

Le is never going to be a full time fighter again. He will pop up and then disappear for the rest of his career most likely.

I'd heard that Strikeforce would be bringing in Manhoef to fight Lawler, but then went I went to look for a link, I saw that it's now more likely Lawler will be fighting Trevor Prangley.

Would Manhoef even be able to clear testing?

They just need a guy to stand and bang with Lawler. Let him get a knockout and hype him up more to the casual fan.

Showtime. The next CBS card will probably be in March or April.
