Bellator signs Roger Huerta (Official Bellator Thread?)

Bellator has just made arguably their biggest signing to date in Roger Huerta, who will compete in their second season's lightweight tournament. The winner of that tournament will face season one's champ Eddie Alvarez. That would be an awesome fight to see. I think Huerta has a pretty good shot at winning this tournament, and while I'd pick Alvarez to beat him, he'd be a game opponent for sure.

This is the latest, and biggest in this seasons' rash of solid, but in some ways under the radar signings by Bellator. Huerta will be joining other newcomers Ben Askren (WW), Dan Hornbuckle (WW), Jacob "Tick Tock" McClintock (WW), Eric Mariott (FW), and Joe Warren (FW). They have a whole slew of other young guys with impressive records, if not the name recognition of the previously mentioned fighters. These guys are joining an already solid roster of fighters including season one champs Hector Lombard (MW), Lyman Good (WW), Eddie Alvarez (LW), Joe Soto (FW) and standouts Toby Imada (LW), and Wilson Reis (FW).
I was lukewarm on Bellator in their first season, but they ended up putting on some great shows, and I'm really excited for this coming season.
I think they are doing a great job building their product with up and comers, and could settle into a nice little niche as the #2 and feeder system for the UFC/WEC. I give them a much better shot at being around in 2011 than I do Strikeforce, that much is for sure.
