HBK's retirement was real. He was retiring from professional wrestling.

As for Owen dying that was just a freak accident, it has nothing to do with the overall scheme such as fighting. The only thing real would be when they use props and I think they even stopped doing most of that now. Scripted fighting does not mean its real.

Just for entertainment's sake.

I consider what i do in that ring very real, the volince is pretty damn real to any one us wrestlers who get punched in the face or who take a bump, it all hurts us. Thats why most wrestlers usaly need a cane or other things to help them walk in there damn 40s or 50s

I find the term "work" to be the most fair. Scripted implies to outsiders that not only is the finish predetermined, but everything leading up to it as well. From my understanding, certain spots are scripted amongst wrestlers and I guess for special occasions long sequences, but not an entire match. I guess I've heard the criticism that a lot of modern wrestlers script out long sequences, but I don't know how prevalent that is.

Anyway, "work/worked" makes a clear distinction between two fighters/people shooting on each other for real, trying to kill or injury each other. MMA fights are shoots. Street fights are shoots. Pro wrestling is a work. Fake leaves too much open for interpretation, as you've seen from the varied responses in this thread.
