Linda McMahon
Election day is approaching. Do you think she has a shot at winning? Would you vote for her?

Re: Linda McMahon
I don't know if this is a wholly appropriate topic for this board.
Anyway, since I'm not a CT resident this is a hypothetical question for me and no I wouldn't vote for her. It has nothing to do with her association with the WWE. I'm not a Republican and I don't agree with her on most issues and that's the reason I wouldn't vote for her. Her association with WWE has no effect, negative or positive, for me.
As someone who follows politics pretty closely I'd say its highly unlikely she'll win. She's been consistently trailing in the polls and her opponent polls above 50% with favorable above 50% while she's usually in the mid-low 40's with unfavorable above 50%.

She was close in the polls about a month ago, but that just going away now. While I live in CT, I don't think I''ll be voting for her.

Re: Linda McMahon
she spent a lot of her money that would suck for her if she didn't win, but it doesn't look like she has a shot

Obviously I could have put this in the political board but I was more curious as to whether wrestling fans would vote for her than the average voter. Anyways, last I read she's down 11% so I'd say it's unlikely but not impossible. She has spent her own money rather than accepting money from corporations as others usually do so that's good but I rarely ever vote for Democrats or Republicans so I don't think I'd vote for her either.

I get why you'd ask it on this board. Having said that, anyone who is more likely to vote for her because they are a WWE fan, I'd personally find that pretty objectionable.
As to her spending her own money rather than getting money from corporations and other special interests, its a double-edged sword. Yeah she isn't beholden to them, but it also makes it look like she's trying to buy a senate seat.
Not all margins are created equal. If she was down 45-34 it would be one thing because there would atleast be enough of the electorate left that was atleast willing to give her a shot and she could convince then. But she's down 53-42, which means her opponent is above 50 and he's convinced enough voters that he's the right guy

Re: Linda McMahon
Let's try and relate this to WWE somehow. Otherwise, there's a thread on this on the CA board?
How, if at all, do you think this would effect the on-air product?

It's one of the big reasons Why WWE is PG-rated right now, can't be in election, while you hubby is making Rated R type shows...that appeal to kids...

Re: Linda McMahon
^^^ Yeah apparently the WWE is being investigated for this. Something about how the campaign is essentially a front effort to boost Linda's campaign.
This campaign isn't the reason for the PG product. The PG era really began after the Benoit situation and the endless barrage of negative publicity they then received. When Linda loses, I don't know if the PG era will necessarily end but I think they'll stop being so paranoid about there image. I know JR said the campaign had nothing to do with Bryan's firing but I still think it did even if it was subconscious.

Did she lose by a large margin? I understand her opponent is the one who lied about his war record. Democracy will prove to be a failure, as usual.

She lost by 11 points the same margin she'd been trailing by in the polls. I don't know how her losing is evidence of a failure of democracy. It would be a faillure of democracy if her opponent somehow stole the election which there's no evidence of. As far as his lying about his war record, enough people were either willing to forgive him and look past it or didn't care. Personally, I find her response when asked about Lance Cade's death and her not knowing the minimum wage much more objectionable than him lying about his war record and subseuently apologizing about it.

If he's willing to lie about his war record, what else is he lying about? The United States has had Republicans and Democrats running it for decades and little good has come out of it. As long as we continue putting them in power, Democracy will continue to fail. The government should stop subsidizing factory farms and the use of pesticides and other chemicals in our food. Stop war. Look to natural medicine rather than drugs. Just a few of the changes. I have a feeling it'll be more of the same, and I have a feeling Linda wouldn't be much different unfortunately.

That's a pretty riddiculous slippery slope jump to make. And even if I agreed with the positions you laid out, which I don't, that's not a failure of democracy. It would be a failure of democratically elected officials in government and if you fail to see the difference in that I would suggest taking a high school civics class.
