Post#1 » by Celtics_Champs » Mon Dec 12, 2011 12:03 pm

WWE Slammy's are tonight. Let's do our own!

Wrestler of the year -
Moment of the year -
Match of the year -
Storyline of the year -
WWE Diva of the year -
Breakout superstar of the year -
Announcer of the year -

You can be biased, I don't care, I will be a little. These aren't your WWE's slammys of the year, this is ours, so feel free to put Daniel Bryan winning the MITB as your moment of the year, Stanford. I am.

Feel free to add your own categories too, of course.

Wrestler of the year - CM Punk. The 'summer of punk' wins this for him.

Moment of the year - Daniel Bryan winning MITB. MITB was the PPV of the year for me too, but nothing topped Bryan grabbing the briefcase. Shocked and excited.

Match of the year - CM Punk vs John Cena. Money in the Bank. Great back and forth match. The crowd was so into Punk, and so against Cena. No idea what was going to happen, Vince comes out with Johnny Ace (Ace's first real appearance), gets clocked by Cena, Punk wins and then leaves with the belt. It was awesome.

Storyline of the year - The Rock coming back to wrestle. This would be no where near my list from late March through October. His stuff was very stale. But he gets this because of his first return and the few weeks after in February. But mainly because of his Survivor Series. I said it when it happened, I'll say it here, it's like I wasn't a smark, I was just a little kid watching one of my favorites in the ring again.

WWE Diva of the year - Kharma. I know her time was very short and the storyline for her came to a weird abrupt ending because of her real life pregnancy. But she would make me mark out every time I heard her music hit.

Breakout superstar of the year - Mark Henry. Thought I was going to put Zach Ryder there, huh? No, he had a huge breakthrough to become where he is today. But Mark Henry went from "Oh we need a big guy out there, lets give them a smiling mark henry and a dancing Khali" to a world champion. Crazy how much he got over. Good to see too, this wasn't just some charity, he really deserves where he is right now.

Announcer of the year - Booker T. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Booker makes me laugh everytime he says something. Many great lines.

Wrestler of the year - Randy Orton
Runner-up: CM Punk

Took a huge step forward this year. He's solidified himself as perhaps the best wrestler in the entire company with great match after great match. His stuff earlier in the year with Punk had us all groaning because we're so scared he'll become Cena and never, ever put anyone - but then he proceeded to have the feud of the year with Christian and another great one with Mark Henry for the title. After that? He's only been having great matches with some of the E's bext young up-and-coming talents; Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, Wade Barrett, etc.

So for me, he gets all the credit in the world for spending his time trying to get mid-carders over, on top of having the best quality matches (I love Bryan, but he didn't get enough air-time to make this claim) all year long.

2011 was truly the year of Orton.

Moment of the year - CM Punks shoot promo
Runner-up: CM Punk winning the WWE title at MitB

Remember when Punk was actually making wrestling cool again, instead of just talking about it? It seems like so long ago, but it actually happened, and it was awesome. It sent the wrestling world into a frenzy. produced the companies second biggest babyface in a single night and lead to three incredible matches including...

Match of the year - John Cena vs. CM Punk at MitB
Runner-up: Randy Orton vs. Christian at Summerslam

God, this one is not even close. What a match.

Storyline of the year - The Summer of Punk
Runner-up: Mark Henry's Hall of Pain

Explained this above. Just a really fun story that didn't disappoint. We were glued to our TVs (and our internets!), all because of Punk (with a little help from Cena).

WWE Diva of the year - Kelly Kelly
Runner-up: Beth Phoenix

She's actually not that bad of wrestler, and she's moderately over for a Diva. Had a good, believable run with the title and had some good matches while she was at it. Beth was a little underwhelming to me, and while her work in the ring was better, the DoD angle hasn't produced any memorable moments with her as Champion yet. It can still come, but I assume it won't be until the new year.

Breakout superstar of the year - Mark Henry
Runner-up: Dolph Ziggler/Cody Rhodes

He's amazing. Made me a believer. The guy can work a wrestling match.

Announcer of the year - Booker T
Runner-up: William Regal

Right here, right now. Right here, right now. Black Snow is **** awesome. Don't know how anyone could dislike him. He's the most likeable guy on the planet.

Seriously, watch this and tell me he's not the best announcer of the year.

Wrestler of the year-CM Punk. I was tempted to put Christian or Orton in this spot because they've been consistently having the best matches of this year. And also Punk is getting this for basically 2 months of work. He was good but not spectacular prior to his feud with Cena and I don't think he's been great since. Some of that isn't his fault (the ridiculous feuds with Nash and HHH) and some of it is his fault I really disliked what he was doing during his work with ADR. Having said that, he was that good for those 2 months that he gets this award.

Moment of the Year-Punk returning. A better crowd would've made this a truly legendary moment, but it was still a great moment nonetheless.

Story line of the year-The summer of Punk. I love wrestling I watch Monday Night Raw and Smackdown every week. I don't watch TNA regularly, but I watch semi-reguarly and more or less know what's going on in that company. But if often feels like I do it in part because I've been doing it for 15 years. But that two month period was the first time in who knows how long that I was really on pins and needles looking forward to the next Raw.

Match of the year: Punk vs Cena and MITB. Nothing really needs to be said.

Diva of the Year: Beth I guess. She got a good match out of Eve, that deserves some recognition.

Breakout superstar of the year-Dolph Ziggler. Maybe he gets this a year from now when he's consistently maineventing. But I wasn't totally sold on him before but these past few months but its clear this guy is the WWE's next great heel.

Announcer of the year-JR. Whenever he does it, it just becomes so abundantly clear how much better he is than everyone else they have combined.

Wrestler of the year - cm punk

Moment of the year - i agree w/stanford, the punk promo is what got me fully back in and dedicated followed by his match at money in the bank

Match of the year - punk vs. cena in money in the bank
nothing comes close especially being in punks hometown of chicago (always been my favorite wrestling crowd) and being able to feel the hatred for cena come alive through your tv sets was awesome. only thing that comes close in terms of anticipation is rock/cena vs awesome truth but the match itself and buildup wasnt great

Storyline of the year - summer of punk easily, havent had promos delivered like that in years and it reached its height at money in the bank w/him defeating cena (and a nice rematch at summerslam)

WWE Diva of the year - kharma
the wwe's done a good job of making sure we dont give a damn about the divas division but she was as over as anyone in her short reign of terror. be curious how she'll fare when she comes back

Breakout superstar of the year -mark henry
tough call for me between dolph and henry, the 2 best parts of each show (and have been the past few months) but it's gotta be henry just for all the sh*t he's been given his whole career and you think where has this mark henry been this entire time. the hall of pain is greatness as are his way of words and how they flow out of his mouth. also great at in ring psychology. seems lately theyve made him look a little weak which i could do w/o (but of course they will since he's a heel)

Announcer of the year - i guess jr, cole is insufferable and not in a good way and lawler is lame. booker makes me laugh w/his 'wut da haaelll' shpiel but i just want jr back and cole out of the picture. btw, take the f*ckin announcer feuds off my screen.

feud of the year - im gonna put this in b/c orton/christian needs to be recognized somehow for their constant 5 star matches that went throughout the summer, i hated that the only way christian got the title back was orton getting dq'd and it felt cheap b/c as you watched the matches i tried not to get sucked in but there were times through every match id think, well maybe just maybe christian can pull it off. in the end he never did but their in ring work cant be commended enough

Wrestler of the year - CM Punk (he's made the WWE a lot more interesting lately)

Moment of the year - CM Punk's shoot promo (nothing else is even close IMO)

Match of the year - Punk vs. Cena at Money in the Bank

Storyline of the year - CM Punk vs. the establishment (McMahon/HHH/Del Rio/Cena/Laurinitaus)

WWE Diva of the year - Kharma (only Diva that is even watchable)

Breakout superstar of the year - Zack Ryder (his gimmick is annoying, but he reminds me of a young Cena...he's gonna be huge)

Announcer of the year - Michael Cole (not only is he the best actual announcer, but he is an effortless heel)
