WWE Classic - SummerSlam 92 - British Bulldog vs. Bret Hart

Post#1 » by whysoserious » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:10 pm

I'm posting this earlier than what we suggested. I had another match I wanted to post for this idea but I watched this match last night due to seeing a Bret Hart Interview.

Watched the video above that triggered me to watching this match again. Bret gives some great insight leading up to the match.

The match itself, I remember but I watched it again and it should be considered a classic. Crowd was crazy, this was an IC match main eventing a PPV (imagine that today). Bret and Bulldog told a great face vs. face match. Bret got booed at points but fans still cheered him at the end as well. He put over Bulldog and as a lead in to his heavyweight title run.

I'd rank this match a 9/10. Great length, great action and psychology, finish that comes out of the blue that's not using a finisher, 80000 fans.

80,000 in attendance is nuts to think about, but not as nuts as the IC belt main eventing a pay per view.

Only match I'd rank above this in terms of pure wrestling would be Savage vs Steamboat. They just don't make em like this anymore.

They really don't. I can't understand why WWE is not using Bret and Shawn and the likes to help these guys understand the psychology of putting a match together.

I'd add the Iron Man match between Bret and Shawn to that list. Also, I've heard Flair and Steamboat used to really bring it and would have long matches and what not on a nightly basis.

If WWE does another rivalries DVD like the Bret/Shawn one, would love to see a Flair/Steamboat one.

This match though certainly stands the test of time.

What's that, a "CLASSIC" match thread that's actually a classic match? Well I'll be damned!

This match is one of the first matches I remember seeing and thinking "Damn, that was amazing!" This is also the loudest pop I can remember in WWE history.
Feel the rhythm! Feel the rhyme! Get on up, it's bobsled time!

To be fair, I think classic has different meaning to us all. This was not my first choice of match only because it's a pretty common known classic. I actually have another match in mind i'll share later but it's due to the lead up to the match that makes it stick out for me in my mind.

But ya, this is absolutely one of the best matches of the last 30 years.

Match is a 10 out of 10. It's even more impressive when you realize that Davey was winded after the first couple of minutes. Bret pulled a 5 star match out of him.

The Ironman match from WM 12 is great to watch once and then it's boring with each time there after. I think the fact that neither man lost a fall in the first 60 minutes also negates the match. You cant have people believe that you can go 60 minutes without losing a fall one week and then a couple of weeks there after one finisher 15 minutes in does you in. Plus the finish of OT kind of negates the match as well. Wrestling always had a time limit and they promoted the match as 60 minutes. Well Shawn didn't win in 60 minutes and the tie goes to the Champion.

I would give the match 4.5 out of 5 stars

Great match between the two. With the crowd/atmosphere and the way it ended I find it hard to take any points away from this match. IC match main eventing a PPV is pretty crazy.

Think if Christian vs Cody Rhodes was the main event for No Way Out. Theres almost no way the fans these days would except that. And those two are two of the better IC champs we've had of late.
