I don't know why he'd do it either but he clearly is okay going this route. I don't love the Wyatt's as options, why would Vince trust the fate of his company in these backwoods weirdo's. Owens would've been a great choice. The obvious choice is they shouldn't have had HHH win the title and he should be the one wrestling this match.

They Wyatts could sell the heck out of that feud and talk legacy and all that crap and it would make sense. Bray is good on the mic so you can really build it up.

Owens would have been good too, probably the best but I'd have put Bray in that scenario before putting Taker in it. It's not like Taker is going to talk about dong it for Vince. If Vince was a face, it would work cause he can support Vince always being there for him, that he's almost a career WWE guy and all that but with Vince as a heel the angle just seems weird.

The Wyatt's have been so mismanaged that I don't really know if they can mess them up further, but having them do someone else's bidding in a really overt manner seems like a bridge too far for me.
