Mixed Match Challenge

Post#1 » by Stanford » Wed Sep 5, 2018 11:41 pm

Mixed Match Challenge is wrestling at its purest. It combines the short-but-effective promos and character work of WWF's Golden Era with the in ring style of modern wrestling. The last tournament was a lot of fun. Each team was uniquely defined and portrayed with consistency. The crowd was into all the matches because teams found the way to get them interested: Get them involved! Everyone played to the crowd like it was an indy show and it really helped with crowd interaction. Here's this year's teams:

Raw:
Braun Strowman & Alexa Bliss
Bobby Lashley & Sasha Banks
Finn Bálor & Bayley
Jinder Mahal & Alicia Fox
Kevin Owens & Natalya

Smackdown:
The Miz & Asuka
Jimmy Uso & Naomi
Rusev & Lana
AJ Styles & Charlotte Flair
R-Truth & Carmella

My only problem is the exclusion of Daniel Bryan. The Daniel Bryan I love the most, the guy who did goofy stuff like this:is the perfect wrestler for this kind of thing. It's a damn shame he was left off. He has a ready-made partner! Although, pairing him with someone equally goofy, like Billy Kay, would have been preferable to Brie, who has never been funny.

Do yourself a favor and watch. Like I always say, if you don't like MMC, you don't like wrestling.

If you like wrestlers having fun, watch this week's episode. And every episode.

No one is even bothering to pretend that this is a competitive thing another. They're just going out there and goofing around. It's a lot of fun.

Yeah, I'm definitely enjoying this as well. It's great seeing them out of character and having a great time. Makes it very enjoyable to watch.
Kobe Bryant was asked who he feels is the toughest opponent to guard in the NBA. Instead of picking OKC's Kevin Durant, Bryant went with Portland’s Brandon Roy.

"Roy 365 days, seven days a week. Roy has no weaknesses in his game."

This week in wrestlers having fun: Asuka and Miz vs Lana and Rusev.

Don't know why Asuka would ever want to leave WWE. She looks like she's having a blast. Her and Miz are a great double act.

They are good together. It's a case of 2 veteran performers being on the same page and "getting" each other despite the language barrier.

I sometimes wonder if maybe it's not a bad idea for the WWE to try putting Roman in the MMC someday, just to see him loosen up.

That’s not a bad idea. Roman seems like a miserable bore in interviews though. He might be able to pull off a comedy match as a heel, but I don’t see it in his current form.

I’d like to see the following in next years, assuming there is one:
Elias
Daniel Bryan
Chad Gable
Cesaro
Fandango
Big E
John **** Cena!
Ruby Riott
Either of the IIconics
I’d love to see how goofy Randy Orton could get now that he doesn’t take himself so seriously.

Yeah, Roman's problem is that he's just generally lacking in charisma. It's hard to get a crowd to like him because he just doesn't come off as terribly likable. He just doesn't have that IT factor that guys like Jericho have where you can't help but like them, face or heel.

Which is why it's so pointless to push him as the top guy in the company. It's just not gonna work.

But putting him in the MMC couldn't hurt. Worth a try at least.

This week: Rusev quotes Rasheed Wallace and Alicia Fox is amazing.

Quotes from the chop-off:
Renee: Did AJ lose a nipple?
Cole: this is the best match I’ve ever called.

I don't remember him saying that at all, lol.

I went back and watched it. Apparently it was from a promo he did two weeks ago. But they showed it within the first 5 minutes of tonight's episode.

Found it!

A funny promo and another reason why MMC rules.

Weird, when I first came into the thread, I saw that you had posted the Rusev interview but then I went to another tab (because I'm at work) and when I came back to it, the page auto-refreshed and it was a video of Daniel Bryan talking about bears during a Truth/Cesaro match....then I refreshed the page and got the Rusev interview....freaking odd.

But great response by Rusev, I loved it.

If Fabulous Truth wins MMC, Mela wants to go to Rome, Italy. Truth wants to go to Rome, Georgia, because that's where Arn Anderson is from.
