I'd say this year's Rumble was good, strange, and...uh...interesting.
So to start off, Rezar/Dawson v Roode/Gable, was strange. I think I would of preferred the odd team to win so that it makes sense to put these tag teams in a feud, but to have them lose? Strange. I mean, it was strange seeing the two together but at least they both got some burn.
Shinsuke v Rusev was good but very predictable. The shenanigans of Shin trying to pull the padding off and Lana getting involved. I'm sure everyone watching called that by a mile. But it was still a good match. Doesn't look like the feud is over with between the two, maybe it can be salvaged somehow. I like how the spot to Lana came full circle though.
Buddy retaining the title was at first a shock but at the same time, it wasn't. I think a lot of us were wanting Hideo to go over but there's Vince giving the classic, F U to the fans. Hideo is so freaking good, hopefully they start feuding...it may get me to actually watch 205 Live, lol. Great match though, it was nice seeing Hideo and Akira get some burn on TV. Would of preferred someone other than Kalisto but I understand why he was in the match. Gotta have some sort of "name" the casual fan will know, lol.
Asuka v Becky was awesome. A fantastic match. And a shocking ending too, having Becky not only lose clean but tap out. I didn't think it hurt Becky though and it was a much needed win for Asuka too. She needed a good clean win over one of the top talents in the company, so Asuka going over clean was perfect. But at the same time, it then made the rumble winner obvious in my opinion.
The Miz/Shane v The Bar was...fine I guess. It would have been better to have The Bar win but that's Vince pilling on the accomplishments for his son. Though we gotta give credit where credit is due and that shooting star press was executed damn near perfectly by Shane. But this is the Bar were talking about, they shouldn't be losing to this crap tag team. No way Jose. Damn you Vince.
Ronda v Sasha was good. I still am not completely sold on Ronda though, so I thought Sasha should have won but it is what it is. If she would of gone through NXT like Baszler did, she'd be awesome. I would buy Shayna as Raw Women's Champ over Ronda right now, no doubt in my mind. Shayna has improved greatly, and she's a bastard heel that plays it so freaking well. Ronda doesn't even have a gimmick properly. WM can not come soon enough to get the title off of her.
The Women's Rumble match was awesome. A bit of a slow start, not as bad as some made it out to be but it was good. Good for Nattie being the ironwoman of the match. Was great seeing Rhea Ripley dominate in the short amount of time she was in, had 3 eliminations, tied for second most with Ruby, Nattie, and Bayley. Charlotte made the match so awesome, she is no doubt hands down the best women's wrestler on the entire roster by far. She is the total package, does everything right. You can't change my mind. She was the star of this rumble match, she made the rumble match. If it wasn't for her, Becky wouldn't be this over. Some other cool spots though, Kacy Cantanzaro is awesome, been following her since her ANW days. She's still green but she's crazy athletic and talented. She's dating Ricochet as well so hopefully that'll help her wrestling wise. I enjoyed Naomi's spot of being saved and then Mandy Rose eliminating her. Great heel move, it got the crowd pissed...it was good heat for her. I was okay with Xia Li being in the rumble, she's got some good potential. The Riott Squad doing shady things, eh, I was okay with it. I think I would of liked seeing Rhea in there a little longer but like I said, she had an amazing showing, 8 minutes in and 3 eliminations. Obviously having Storm or Baszler would of been awesome too. Overall, I enjoyed the crap out of this match.
The death spot...Bryan v AJ. The thing is, it was a great match, but with the pace they went and wrestled, it seemed boring and the crowd was pretty tired. I feel like if they switched the title matches, had Brock v Balor on next, it would have kept the crowd in it with the pace that match went and I think the crowd would of had a bigger reaction to this match. Still though, a great match. Was a little confused by Rowan coming in but if this is a start to a new heel stable led by Daniel Bryan, I'm all for it. Get Luke Harper back with them and what a feud. Perhaps Bryan's next feud will be with Bray Wyatt? I think it's already been done though, yeah?
Finn v Brock was good. It was a fast paced match with Balor getting 80% of the offense and it ending on a submission hold from Brock. You don't see that very often at all. So I was okay with the ending of that match. Though not seeing The Demon made it clear that Brock was going to always win. I've been hearing a lot of you say Finn v Brock at WM and Rollins v Bryan...But I've been reading Rollins v Brock at WM, but honestly, I think I'd prefer it the way y'all are predicting it. Just seems like it'd be more fun and what better way to bring back the Demon, then a WM win against the Beast.
The Men's Royal Rumble was great. I guess it was kind of neat seeing JJ in the ring again but man...he needs to retire that outfit quick. He looked pretty bad out of shape but kudos to him for not giving a damn. I thought the match was pretty predictable with Rollins winning it but it still had some great spots. Shame Kofi got eliminated so quickly, put that man in the final 4 next time. But honestly, what a cool final 4 though, Dolph, Andrade, Braun, and Rollins. Pretty great in my opinion. Seeing Black and Gargano in the rumble was great. Pete Dunne was awesome in the match as well. Was a shame not seeing Dream in the match but it was alright. The whole Truth/Nia thing was very odd...wonder if it's some sort of punishment or something? Mustafa did a great job in the match, he's really coming into his own on the main roster. Overall, odd last 10 minutes to the men's rumble but glad to see Rollins get the win. Really thought Drew was gonna be in the final 4 but oh well.
I liked this year's rumble PPV, it was awesome. Just odd placement of matches is all...plus Shane/Miz winning was not good.
Kobe Bryant was asked who he feels is the toughest opponent to guard in the NBA. Instead of picking OKC's Kevin Durant, Bryant went with Portland’s Brandon Roy.
"Roy 365 days, seven days a week. Roy has no weaknesses in his game."
