Yea that part didn't make a lot of sense. I was thinking at the time that it would make sense IF he then immediately scores fall #2 from the aftermath of the chairshots. That way the announcers can sell it as "now its one fall and Johnny just wanted to skip right to the weapons portion" but that 2nd match went on for like 20 minutes which defeated the purpose of forfeiting fall #1 for the chair attack lol

I feel like that's a complaint with wrestling in general at this point in time. It's all a ton of finisher kick outs. Gargano just happens to often be in the main event the bulk of the time, so he's more subject to it than most since main event matches have to be bigger and more epic than the matches that precede them.

But this was ridiculous. Gargano could have been shot at point blank range and he would have kicked out at 2 if they found a way. Theirs suspending disbelief and then theirs jumping the shark and they may have done that here.

He kicked out of an avalanche canadian destroyer. That kafaybe should be enough to not only get the three count but for him to get stretchered away and put into the back of an ambulance and write him off.

Back when we were all growing up it was first to hit a finisher wins. Period. It started getting out of hand right after Taker vs Michaels part 1. Kicked out of multiple tombstones and superkicks. And for the time and occasion, made for great suspense. But now it's being overdone souch that finishers don't mean shite anymore. That's bad for business

Edit to add: to touch on your "that should've put him in an ambulance " comment. I don't know if your old enough to remember or have seen, but Hulk Hogan, pre-heel WWF superhero Hulk Hogan, was kayfabe put in the hospital from being attacked by earthquake and eating a couple of his finishers. Nowadays any Joe, Dick, or Tom would kick out at a count of 2.

The real Io Shirai showed up last night.

NXT has been hitting all the right spots with her ever since Kairi left. Kairi NEEDED to leave for Io to move forward.

I think he has what it takes to be a huge star in the industry (not just WWE), but I can also see Vince and his patented "I don't get him" and sabotage him.

Yeah i'm kinda leery about him main staging but i think he's good enough to get himself a cult following that gets it if nothing else. He's wayyyyyyy too talented as a character and even his ring work to not be able to get over. But i'd be all for an extended NXT stay just to be sure.

absolutely loved how he sold every injury throughout the match, even when executing offense he sold the damage. Love the advantageous way he gets his wins, the old school tribute portion of his moveset mixed in with some innovated newness. Dude is a bonifide star though. The way he's completely dived into this character and done sooooo much with it is remarkable.

perhaps him being more of a "homegrown" star than most may appeal to Vince and work in his favor

But agree, the guy is a star, the way he's learned his wrestling craft has been quite a feat. And he has more charisma in his fingertips than many wrestlers combined
