Didn't feel like they needed that.

I didn’t feel like it was shenanigans for the sake of there being shenanigans (assuming you’re talking about the finish). It was all for the sake of creating/furthering this apparently pretty robust storyline (potentially, anyway).

It was an amazing match and I know for the sake of heel Omega he had to break the gentlemens agreement.
I just feel like they went a little too far with it.

I’m okay with the main event but is it just me or are they completely overdoing post match attacks? I swear this how they push everyone feud / storyline and it’s too much now.

It’s team Taz attacking everyone, then it’s TH2 attacking young bucks, etc.

I don’t really get the direction of the tag team division. The Bucks beat FTR, and then there’s no real fallout afterward. FTR has scarcely been on TV since and the Bucks have been having random segments/matches with newcomer tag teams.

And on that note, I find The Acclaimed and their gimmick pretty cringeworthy. When Cena was doing the rap thing it was cool, it was edgy, and he had this believability about him. When Castor was trying to rap it was just so awkward and weird. His voice is so light and his mannerisms were ‘off.’

Not a bad episode, but I feel like we were left with more questions than answers, and not in the good way. It’s more like they strung us along but didn’t really have a plan yet. Omega teased a big announcement tonight but said nothing. Sting spoke and it’s always worthwhile to have him as an on screen character but it just barely furthered what happened last week.

I noticed multiple very obvious do-over camera cuts throughout the show. One was during the Sting/Cody segment, another during the Dustin match.

I was just happy that they didn’t try to have OC go over MJF.

A lot of quality, TV worthy segments tonight, for sure.

Sting looked really good - that was nice to see. Agreed - there were a lot of good segments last night. And I liked the opening tag-team match. I know some don't care for the choreographed parts of Young Bucks matches, but that was a tough and fun match - and I admit to being a mark for Jack Evans - It kept my attention to the point that I kept watching AEW over NXT.

I thought it was a let down of an episode in all honesty, the segments were there for a stacked show, but failed to deliver.

- i like the Bucks putting the younger teams in the spotlight like Top Flight, and the Acclaimed. Also glad that TH2 was used in a storyline involving the belts. Acclaimed will beat SCU and then feud for the belts, too soon if that’s the plan.

- Darby Allin video segment was really well done, I was expecting it to super dorky at first, but it just keep getting better and better. this might’ve been my favourite video of his yet.

- Thought this Sting promo was awful and same with the segment. Accomplished nothing, and him telling Tony to do the call once again, and giving him a couple hugs... I get it was a moment, but just doesn’t suit the character at all. Sting isn’t mysterious when cutting promos, but this did nothing for his character.

- FTR needs a storyline going for them after losing the belts. Jurassic Express is just fine for them. Loving this varsity blondes team, both kids with great potential.

- Hangman dark order storyline is super interesting but wonder where this leaves Brodie Lee upon return. A feud between the two could be good.

- i still get mad at goldust not putting over the younger guys, but I LOL’d at the Se7en reference post match.

- actually glad they used Shaq in a small segment and not a big focus. This created a moment / meme that has since generated a lot of buzz for aew. Mission accomplished.

- Inner Circle segment didn’t do much to advance the storyline, but at least MJF and OC had a very good match. Genuinely thought OC won after his superman punch. I’m okay with MJF as back to back winner, but happy Miro got to close out the show. Big things hopefully in store for him

- Abadon got a great look, glad they’re building this feud up with Shida for the rematch. I’m intrigued.

- Penta suffered a legit injury during training so aew had to write him off with the table spot. Sucks with everyone just getting healthy but where was Pac??

The Acclaimed have go home heat with me. They’re just so cringe. Weird, effeminate mannerisms, rapping —but he has this light, unintimidating voice. It’s just off-putting.

Pretty weak show this week, but I suppose they can’t all be good shows. Too many tag matches for sure, though: Acclaimed vs SCU, the 7 v 7 tag match, the 3 on 3 match with Hangman and the Dark Order, and even the Kingston segment teased a tag match. The ladies came out and had a tag match, and then Joey Janela is in the main event with Sonny Kiss at ring side.

Very disappointed in the way they used Sting tonight also. What, are they paying him by the minute and trying to save money ? Like, coming out for 30 seconds, pointing a bat and leaving left a lot to be desired. 3 weeks in and we don’t know WHY he’s there. I’d rather miss Sting than just have him come out and do nothing.

I didn't watch the whole show because it was boring - what I did watch was all mailed in. And topping it off with Janela being half of the main event - that was hard to comprehend.

All Elite Wrestling - Discussion

Post#1153 » by AirCanadaMouse » Thu Dec 17, 2020 2:33 pm

One of the worst episodes, downright boring and pointless. I usually pop open an energy drink or two during dynamite, especially when it’s time for a segment I’m excited for, well.... I was waiting and waiting and that energy drink remained unopened by the end of it.

That’s when I knew this episode sucked. Lol

And I know it’s a wrestling show, but there was just too much wrestling for me. I don’t really care for in ring wrestling unless it’s a ppv like matchup or feud. So a lot of this episode did nothing for me.

I love storylines, characters, and promos. We got nothing. No real advancement of storylines, nothing ground breaking. Just a total skip.

Not even going to bother with a full review since there’s nothing really noteworthy. Baker/Thunder Rosa seems like a good feud tho, and I like that FTR cut that promo because it already feels like they have no direction after losing the titles.

What does every one think about Cody ? Specifically in reference to the way he has booked himself, being one of the EVP’s. I have my thoughts on this, but I’m generally interested to hear what you guys think.

I think he’s one of the best all around talents in AEW, and arguably their best wrestler at cutting babyface promos, which isn’t easy to do.

I’ve heard the HHH comparisons, and they’re overboard, and rather cliche, it’s nothing like that. He actually loses more of his main feuds than I’d like.

I think tonight we got a preview of how The Acclaimed will be received when fans are fully back in arenas. I know they’re the heels, but those sounded like **** boos from the fans. Why did AEW hotshot this rather green team into main event title match after about 1 month ??

I assume they’re trying to save any Sting “action” for their next PPV which is still two months out — but him not doing anything, just appearing and not furthering any storylines is getting old. Not that fans will sour on him, but if people are catching wins that he’s there but not doing anything, then it’ll be less of a reason for people to tune in in droves.

I was one of the people saying “let’s see where this Dark Order thing goes” when everyone was saying it was corny, and now I’m in agreement (and have been for awhile). They’ve gone from dark/mysterious heels, to pseudo-heels that do comedy. When Brodie comes back he shouldn’t be anywhere near them.

This show was meh overall. No Hangman, no Cody, no Moxley. FTR appearing for a quick second. Show just fell flat.

I saw AEW and Jericho trending so I thought it was gonna be a good show just turns out that it was NBA Twitter who
haven't watched wrestling in 15-20 years making Jericho fat jokes and wondering what this "Bush league WWE rip off
AEW is?" woof

I think AEW had some momentum a few weeks ago when Sting debuted and they teased an invasion with Impact Wrestling
but once people saw that Sting is just gonna go around staring at people and do interviews that don't really amount to
anything a lot of the buzz has worn off. As for Impact I think people wanted to see an invasion type storyline right off the
bat and maybe it's a slow burn and still in the works but people have such a short attention span nowadays and since it's
been like 3 weeks of just Kenny Omega sitting in a bus on Impact with some heel Tony Khan promos and nothing on the
Dynamite side this storyline has lost major momentum.

I thought the Young Bucks vs. The Acclaimed main event went on to long and I got bored and started reading the dirt
sheets while it played in the background. Doesn't matter how many flips and high spots you do if you could careless
about the characters you don't care about how good the match supposedly is athletically. Teams like Top Flight and
the Acclaimed might have some talent but they look like they're in the back stages of puberty. Really no need to
have them in high profile spots on the show they should be on Dark learning psychology.

As for the Dark Order they've had change the channel heat since day one and nothing has changed. Also is Miros gimmick
supposed to be this guy with horrible fashion or is he really just this poorly dressed guy in real life?

All Elite Wrestling - Discussion

Post#1158 » by AirCanadaMouse » Thu Dec 24, 2020 4:54 pm

Second dud in a row for me, looks like a lot of filler as the bigger cards roll in starting from next week.

My energy drink from last week remains unopened LOL.

Aew desperately needs a second show or they need to take Dark way more seriously. There was a huge lack of main event stars being showcased.

Omega is the hottest thing in wrestling now; this collector gimmick is brilliant. And I loved the promo he cut, but he needed to be featured way more.

Women need to be featured way more. the Baker / Thunder Rosa storyline is a matchup I want to see and it wasn’t pushed at all.

Abadon/Shida had the best segment of the night, and the show is so packed, that the commentary completely no sells the bite so they can move on to the next portion of the show. Awful pacing, I hate having to fit everything in one show.

Sting needs to be used in spurts, not every week. And he’s talking to Tony every week and it’s going no where. He wanted to join aew because he wants to be associated with the Rhodes family again. Cool. Moving on now....

Jericho looks awful. Dad bod aside, his timing was all over the place against the faster paced team. He couldn’t keep up at all.

Dustin Rhodes continues to win far too much. Evil Uno is the more talented wrestler at this stage. I have no interest in Dustin going through the dark order. Again. This was the same person who was competitive against Brodie Lee after he just squashed Cody. I hate how Dustin presumably books himself.

Butcher has a great look but man he is so sloppy in the ring. The finish was so awkwardly timed, Butcher was just waiting for the run in. Awfully executed.

Only things I liked aside from Shida/Abadon:
- MJF / Santana backstage segment
- Shawn Spears backstage segment

So when the highlights are two backstage segments and a brawl with Shida / Abadon that was under sold by commentary. You know it was a complete dud for me.

With AEW following the big NBA season opener, you’d think they’d try to put out a better show than that one. Just by way of following an NBA game on TNT, there were going to be some new eyes on the program — if only for a few minutes. 50 year old, way out of shape Jericho getting dismantled by NBA Twitter/social media aside, why have Top Flight (you’re brand new, GREEN tag team that no one knows) in the show opener ?

Then shortly after that was the Jurassic Team match, and I couldn’t help but notice how preposterously out of place Marko Stunt looks on TV trying to wrestle. The optics of this match were so bad with Stunt out there trying to compete against Cabana (who I’ve soured on immensely) and two Dark Order job guys. I know it was to give Jurassic Express a win that leads to the promo with FTR ... but why did Stunt have to be in the match ? And then the goofiness of him being upset with Tully after the match was just more stupid, silly pseudo comedy.

Cabana has lost any value he could possibly bring to a wrestling promotion. He’s the definition of one dimensional, and his stuff got old quick. I was interested to see where the Dark Order/Cabana storyline was gonna go, and it went nowhere. He’s in the DO but he’s still the exact same character.

Enough with Sting teasing a confrontation with Team Taz. He’s been there on four episodes of Dynamite now, and each week it’s been the same thing. Go somewhere with it. He doesn’t need to be on TV every week if this is all that’s going to happen with him. They could’ve spaced this out over the course of a month and a half.
