Gee, people sure are mad that one of the biggest stars in wrestling won their company's TV title.

Won't lie, I loved it.

But the stampede is match of the year. It was perfection, I can't say anything else.

All Elite Wrestling - Discussion

Post#847 » by AirCanadaMouse » Sun May 24, 2020 11:01 am

I really enjoyed this PPV, was a very easy watch, didn’t drag on at all. Found every match entertaining aside from Penelope/Statlander. Glad with all the booking decisions so I really can’t complain either.

I was really worried how the Stampede Match would pan out, but they made it work by breaking it into segments with each person involved, and each one delivered. Great mix of brawls, comedy, and high spots. Loved it, match of the night.

World championship Match, idk about the ending but the spot on the entrance ramp was pleasant surprise. A true “holy sh*t” moment for me, good call by making this more into a hardcore match if I’m honest. Suits their style and feud. This is the first Moxley match I’ve enjoyed in quite sometime.

As for the TNT Championship, Tyson looked bored, and his appearance did nothing for me which is a shame because I was looking forward to it. Cody has a tendency to overbook his matches with the same formula, Archer was the one that really carried this match, nice touch with the DDT/Spinebuster exchange. Happy with Cody going over but not sure where this puts Archer. Good match to me, but it’s thanks to Archer.

Shida getting the Women’s championship was the right call, she was the Tony Ferguson of the division. And while Shida makes everyone look good, credit to Nyla for stepping up. Shida’s line with the “I have my kendo stick, b*tch” was a good callback to dynamite, and very funny. Another good match. They both put on a good performance.

Casino ladder match wasn’t the spotfest I was hoping for (lol), especially as an opener, but they made it work. Orange Cassidy is the best. Don’t want to hear otherwise. Brian Cage looks like a tank and he can really move, liked what I saw from him and looking forward to him vs. Moxley. Moxley’s reign will be really impressive by successfully defending against Hager, Lee, and Cage.

Shawn Spears has been a constant bright spot to me, as much as I’d like to see him get some wins, he’s the perfect heel who understands his role and putting people over. He gets it. I could do without his ass showing but i would be lying if I said I didn’t laugh during this match. Dustin is meh to me, but kudos to Spears for shining through again. Found this entertaining tbh.

MJF/Jungle Boy was fantastic to me, maybe a bit overboard with the chops, but loved the chain wrestling and grappling exchanges. MJF working the arm for his finisher, that’s wrestling to me. Happy with the roll up finish too, very fitting for this feud. They both looked great, MJF called a lot of spots in that match, he’s come a long way in the ring. A true star. Honestly the best pure wrestling match on this card, major props to both.

That stadium stampede match was the best wrestling thing I have ever seen!
Hilarious, absurd, insane match.

I need to go back and rewatch the stadium stampede match. I only skimmed through it — caught some glimpses of some interesting, funny, and high-spot segments but I didn’t watch it all (probably like half of it).

I was surprised that Shida went over (not mad at it, though).

The MJF/Jungle Boy match was great. It was a real throwback kind of wrestling match.

The ladder match was pretty good. Brian Cage as the surprise entrant was dope (Taz as the manager is interesting). That Darby spot with the skateboard off the ladder was reckless. They need to dial back his bumps some. I think the right guy won this; I remember looking at the field for this match and thinking “anyone who wins is still a step below being a real main eventer.”

I watched the PPV and honestly i really didn't like it at all. I mean there were good matches (Shida vs Rose was decent, i enjoyed the Stampede Match for what it was and MJF vs Jungle Boy was great).

Shida going over was a surprise, not neccesarily bad, but i feel bad that Nyla (who has improved a lot) didn't get at least 1-2 more defenses). Shida is their best woman though so its never a bad choice to put the title on their best.

Spears vs Dustin was terrible, i'm sorry it just was. Dustin i'm not convinced should be doing anything more than 5-10 minute sprints at this point, i mean he's 50 for crying out loud.

Ladder match i thought was very disjointed but i'm glad Cage debuted, i'm not happy that Taz is his manager, mainly cause i remember when Samoa Joe had Taz in TNA and that was rubbish.

Stadium Stampede was very DDT, its enjoyable but not everything was my cup of tea perse (i mean i like goofy things to an extent).

Cody vs Archer was a mistake and i'm starting to see some scary comparisons to Cody and HHH (reign of terror HHH) sure he's lost against MJF, but MJF is his boy, and he lost against Jericho (so fair enough there) but not putting over Archer here is just ridiculous to be honest. Archer has proven he can carry a mid card title and do it exceptionally well (compare his IWGP US title run to Cody's and there is such a large disparity in quality its not even funny). Also I know they do this to hide his flaws but they need to calm down with the shenanigans with the Rhodes matches. Every single one of his matches is collided with it. Maybe i'm just salty cause of watching Archer and being impressed with him but this was a mistake and Archer was the one carrying Cody in this which made the decision worse.

When that TNT title got unveiled it reminded me of the universal title reveal, just as bad to be honest. Now i know they said they'll touch it up but they need to go back to the drawing board.

MJF vs Jungle Boy was the highlight though. MJF is going to be the main heel of the company for the next decade and Jungle Boy may end up being the face of the company before long. This was a fantastic showcase of the young talent that AEW has.

The Stadium Stampede was the highlight of the year for pro rasslin. Damn, that was fun and so needed. It made the show.

After that, I'd go with Shida vs Nyla. That was probably the best I've seen Nyla perform, and Shida was great.

The ladder match was just so-so. Let's be real - AEW has too many little guys. Orange Cassidy was fun though. It was obvious that Cage was going to win.

I had zero problem with Cody beating Archer. It did look a bit odd a couple times when Archer looked like he could have finished Cody but ran out of gas. But losing didn't hurt Archer, and Cody needed to win.

The MJF/Jungle Boy match went as it should have. Jungle Boy's still a few years away from being in MJF's level - what MJF says is true, and MJF is already a star. He carried the match.

Orange Cassidy is just brilliant. From entering the match and first asking Excalibur what he should do to win, to just standing there and reach for the pokerchip. I love him.

I watched the stampede match another time and I again was almost crying from laughter. It was just what we needed at this time.

This is why I love posting here tbh, just wish it was a bit more active haha. On Reddit it’s the same takes and if you go against the grain in any sort of way, you get downvoted. It becomes an echo chamber. BORING! And discouraging.

While I personally loved this event, I really appreciate this take and post. Hope the next one entertains you more, though Fyre Fest seems like the throw aways of all the PPVs. Don’t ever be sorry for having your own take, good post, like hearing it from another perspective!

Ps: Hate how I can’t send And1’s through the app..

Yeah that's what i like about this place as well, everyone has different opinions in wrestling and people are respectful of that which is great.

Stampede was just too much with the goofiness was almost like one of those over the top reality TV shows that didn't really make much sense. I personally would have went with a traditional match. I'm glad they are thinking outside the box just wasn't for me this time, personally.
Also Matt Hardy superficial stuff is annoying pretty much only one guy can pull that stuff off and it's obviously the taker.

Didn't enjoy any of the Women's matches - I just can't get invested into any of the women on the roster right now seems like a waste of time and almost like they are feeding the crap down many people throats. Thought two women's matches was too much .. One is plenty and still probably overboard in my opinion.

MJF & Jungle Boy match was good mainly because of MJF that guy is a star in the making and i predict he's the first to beat Moxley after he runs down Cage and maybe couple others and it will be glorious! Sorry just don't get excited for some skinny twink looking wrestler who is only famous because of his last name! Gain some weight, and change name plus look and maybe we got something major until that happens meh for me.

Dustin vs. Spears was dumb for two reason's 1) he lost and needed the win more and 2)Of all the asses to show they decided Spears? Haha

Enjoyed the ladder match it would have been much better if Fenix didn't get hurt last WED he's got to be the most exciting wrestler on the roster as far as I'm concerned.

Cage debuting was exciting to see as AEW could use a guy like Cage very explosive for his size just make sure he doesn't go past 10-12 minutes or he'll be gassed and useless.

Props for Orange Cassidy for never disappointing with the stupidly his character is unique and refreshing in many ways!

Enjoyed the Mox vs. Lee match had some nice spots that featured carnage, which is always my cup of tea!! Not sure i agree with them matching up pretty much right off the bat, but many ways Khan can go with the exalted one's story line guessing this won't hurt Brodie moving forward.

Cody vs. Archer was okay nothing special i understand them wanting Cody to be the champ i really do maybe it wasn't the best time for Archer to lose right away like this - Perhaps should have built him up more and had him fight Cody with ample intrigue at a later date.

In the end, this show was just okay for me.

First Edge chokes Orton from a weight machine days after the Dark Side of the Ring episode and now LAX try to drown Matt Hardy days after Shad dies in a drowning, are they really that oblivious?!

I didnt get to see it, but heard so much positive feedback.

I have no problem with Cody going over here. He has to maintain some credibility. He lost to MJF and Jericho, if he lost this one he runs the risk of becoming a Strowman from a few years back, so much momentum, but loses the big one.

It was a bad night for the "monster heels" in Archer, Lee, and Nya. So maybe some mystique was lost there. I commend AEW for constantly trying to put on a great show, but with no fans and the Stampede match in place, I think a lesser opponent would for Moxley better, someone like Shawn Spears. Then maybe have Lee beat Dustin.

I'd imagine that the plan is to have Lee win the title down the line, which is why they protected him with the finish by not having him tap or get pinned.

Omega has to win the title next, or any non-WWE guy really. MJF someone to keep an eye on too, they’re building him and have given him some big wins and storylines. He also showed how far he’s come in the ring at the PPV.

Great to see how former wwe wrestler (eg Hardy, Mox) blossom out in AEW.
