Favorite Gimmick Ever

Post#1 » by VintaGe36 » Wed Sep 29, 2010 12:34 pm

Not sure if theres a thread for this, so I just thought I'd start it.

Stumbled upon it in another wrestling forum.

Basically, what gimmicks did you really enjoy when watching wrestling?

My personal favorite is probably Kurt Angle when he first debuted in the WWE.

the most obscure gimmick I was a fan of was Waylon Mercy lol

I liked Sabu, ECW/Invasion RVD, Abdullah The Butcher, Tiger Jeet SIngh, Hollywood Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin 1996-early 1997 version, early crow Sting, corporate Rock, and now Dashing Cody Rhodes lol

Fav ever? Probably Hollywood Hogan 1996/1997

I'll tell you one that hated; DX wannabe Kane. I can understand wanting to give the Big Red Machine a personality, but it just seemed like such an awkward fit.

I dunno if that was really a gimmick. Kinda who he was in real life isn't it?

Same here about early Taker. Just liked the character more once they started giving him a little more of a push and bigger storyline (surrounding him with druids and built the Ministry of Darkness).

Seriously, how epic was this...

On the topic of the Rock...I have to say that any type of gimmick he had (heel or face) was classic. Especially when he came back all "Hollywood" Rock.

Carlito had one of the best intros to the wrestling business ever. His gimmick was pure gold. Too bad they ruined him so quickly.

"Introducing, at allegedly over 400 pounds, Hardcore Holly!" I found that whole Holly-being-completely-delusional bit inordinately amusing.

Not my favourite gimmick ever, but an enjoyable tidbit nonetheless.

And yes, I too was always a fan of Angle's "Your Olympic Champion" bit...especially when he would extol his own virtues to the crowd and get incredibly frustrated when they still booed him. "What is the MATTER with you people?" was always good for a laugh.

I liked Paul Burchill's hooligan gimmick AND his ridiculous pirate gimmick...I wish he'd stuck around longer.

Most idiotic: Hercules. So, you're actually a Greek demigod, eh? Shouldn't you be
(a) kicking everyone's butt?
(b) over 1000 years old?
(c) I dunno, Greek?
(d) wearing something other than chains, which really have nothing to do with Hercules at all?
(e) finding something better to do with your time than chasing the intercontinental championship?
I MEAN, REALLY.

I was gonna say Jake too. His promos with Ultimate Warrior and Taker were some of the greatest I've ever seen.

I really enjoyed The Brood.
Cena's heel gimmick was great. He generated so much heat.
Scott Hall in general.

My most disliked has to be Vickie Guerrero's "old desperate annoying whore" gimmick. I don't know why but I find it extremely disrespectful to Eddie. I know they are paying her after her family's meal winner pass away. But still. Its just horrible.

I think the WWE making Vickie into a whore is the worst thing they've done in quite some time.

I used to love the Mr. Perfect gimmick. Used to look forward to wrestling on Saturday morning and see what Mr Perfect was going to do. They had him high diving, playing basketball, etc.

Stone Cold sure is up there as well and he was a huge reason I got back into wrestling.
