Meltzer was texted during the show by a WWE employee stating that the reason Zack was not on the show is because "Vince hates the internet". Backstage, many, many people were upset that the person getting the most chants throughout the night was not brought out for a promo or even a quick appearance in his hometown who clearly wanted him there. Meltzer got some more information today on the thought process.
Evidently, it was indeed a rib/joke being played on Zack. Zack had spent his prior show talking up how he was in his hometown, how excited he was, how this could be his chance to finally shine and move up on the card. Zack was told a few days ago he would have a promo and a match on RAW and would turn face on RAW, even being able to acknowledge his youtube show and Internet Champion gimmick. This is why Zack was so excited the past few days.
The rib went so far as there was even a fake script and timeline alloted for Zack to come out and wrestle, besides Superstars, with his RAW promo and on air face turn. When the time came close for this to happen, Zack was informed plans changed and he would not be on air. This was literally during the broadcast. The entire rib was Vince's idea and was because Vince is not a fan of the "bashing" Zack does about WWE and sees it as "giving in" to someone who is visibly bashing the company with "dropping ball" clips, etc.
Meltzer comments that the real joke is on the fans, as the reaction to him not being on air is not pretty and as the rib is being revealed, even less people are happy. Multiple wrestlers have stated their public displeasure with the rib and John Cena was said to directly confront Vince over the situation and what he felt was a poor joke.

Vince has to be the toughest guy to work for. The guy is ruthless. I'm still not over the Montreal Screwjob and that was over a decade ago.

Raw is boring these days. It's guys like him, Dolph and CM Punk is the reason why I watch. However, makes sense they wanna turn him "face".

that was one of the most enjoyable raws i've seen since the rock came back before wrestlemania (not his bday show, that sucked)....however.... it would've been MUCH better had they given zack ryder his shot to shine! just ridiculous that they didn't.

Vince is a dick. You've got a guy who got over with NO HELP from creative and you don't even let him get on tv in his hometown? Ryder is one of the best things going right now and I was just as excited to see him on RAW. I'm glad Cena got in his face about it.

Truth. He is brutal, and he is in charge, his sport was being regulated so he went public and admitted it was entertainment. The guy rarely loses and when he is going to lose he changes things up, or if he does lose (such as wit the World Wildlife Fund) he turns it into a PR win (Get the F out).
The guy is a complete arse to work for based on reports, and that screw job is just one example of McMahon tactics.
He beat the NWA/WCW and bought out their talent and then selectively and methodically punished the people who screwed him in his mind and kept the ones who may have screwed him but would still make him money. He is shrewd as all hell.

Be prepared to see him for 30 sec or less because apparently he isn't good enough to get solid tv time while a scrub like Sheamus is

Punk really is greatness and him leaving will be one less reason to care about RAW. I don't blame Punk for "taking a long break" when Vince (surprise, surprise) is trying to own the rights to the character he created. fckin vulture.

Sheamus is better on the mic, better in the ring and more over with the majority of the fans than Ryder. I love Ryder as much as anyone, but to say he should be on TV over Sheamus is ludicrous.

Yeah, he's only helping put over Alex Riley. That's a pretty big compliment if you ask me. Usually they ask guys like Jericho to do things like that.
