How old were you when you found out pro wrestling is scripted?

I don't ever remember thinking it was real. Obviously I did at some point, but my earliest memories of wrestling feature me watching Raw and wrestling a giant stuffed mickey mouse and pretending I was in a stable with Razor Ramon and Bret Hart. I was booking matches in my head, so clearly I knew it was fake.

I'd say during the Hogan era in the 80's I thought the competition was legit. The first major storyline I can remember following closely though was when Matilda was kidnapped from the British Bulldogs. I'd add the Steamboat throat incident and the Million Dollar Man buying the WWF belt off Andre. I remember being so pissed about him buying the belt, it was so awesome.

Probably, early 90's is when I came to the realization that it was fake and pre-determined, but then my appreciation grew for the athleticism and putting on a match. During Attitude Era, I became more intrigued in the storylines and booking of stories, matches and PPV.

I was around 18. Probably older than most. Chris Jericho said in his book he was around that age too, so I'd like to think it's not too strange that a 16-year old would think pro wrestling is real.

Lol.

I mean...Yeah. Totally.

No, I'm sorry, how did this happen? What years did you watch? I mean I couldn't go a day in the attitude era without hearing from the kids who weren't allowed to watch that "it is all FAKE!"

I started watching regularly in 1992. It was around 1998 that I realized it's scripted. This was around the time wrestlers became more honest about it being scripted. If they hadn't admitted it, I may still today believe it's real.

I just can't imagine thinking wrestling was real as a 16 year old in 1996. It's just too convenient.

13.
At 13, I distinctively remember talking to my friend about ECW and talking about Steve Corino, RVD, Rhyno, but then we started discussing about who's likely going to win PPVs and stuff and for storyline bookings, especially the Invasion era. and stuff but it was still exciting to watch nevertheless

hard not to know it was real....considering how many ppl were anti-wrestling(anti WWF more than anything else) back in the Attitude era, they made it known to me, friends, classmates that it was all staged and fake

not for nothing but for the longest time I thought everything in ECW was 1000000000 percent real

The thing that really first made me realize that things weren't on the up and up was when The Ultimate Warrior was trapped in the coffin by Taker. I remember watching that with my Grandma on a Saturday morning and being devastated because I thought UW was dead. LOL!

I know a grown man who thought the whole Big Show/ Floyd Mayweather thing was real. He is over 40.

I was recently watching that on youtube along with the time Jake the Snake trapped Takers hand in a coughin. Ahhhhhhh, the good ole days. Also remember when Jake had the cobra in the wedding present to Macho Man and then had a snake in the ring biting Macho Man a few weeks later.

THAT was crazy. Macho forever gets respect for being crazy enough to agree to getting bitten by a damn Cobra (de-venomized or not).

!!!! Yes, that was terrifying! I also was very worried when Undertaker locked Warrior in a casket and then they went to commercial......

I stopped watching in '99 and got into boxing. As soon as they strayed away from the awesome 80's and 90's stuff, I was gone. It's beyond terrible now, but the old days were glorious.

Well, you missed ten years of Shawn Michaels. So that's your loss.

I had a Rocker's t-shirt and I remember when Shawn kicked him through the Barbershop window.

Didn't miss it all.
