The way Vince has treated him, since forever was one of the most **** off things he's ever done. JR should still be calling WWE every week.

**** Vince.

I don't get that sense at all. Both Vince and H wished him well on twitter.

I first heard/saw Jim Ross when Power Pro Wrestling was being broadcasted in Philly. That was great wrestling and Ross was the best I'd seen since Gordon Solie.

Aside from Jim Ross wanting to focus on "other business ventures" (most notably his JR's Barbecue company), the Wrestling Observer reports that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon had a role in his departure.

According to Observer report, Ross and McMahon met earlier todayto discuss Ross's future with the company, which led to the decision for Ross to retire.

It's being said that Ric Flair's unruly behavior at the WWE 2K14 panel during SummerSlam weekend was a contributing factor in his departure. WWE management felt that Ross, who hosted the event, should have cut off Ric Flair when he went off-script and made several controversial remarks in front of WWE & 2K Sports executives.

I hope that isn't the case.

Still wish he was calling matches. His voice always gave matches an epic feel to them, he's my favorite broadcaster probably in any field

I agree, I wonder if the real story will ever come out.

I believe he was let go especially after his behavior at the WWE 2K14 event a few weeks back.
What is he exactly "retiring" from? he's only been doing public appearances for the last couple
of years. Does one just retire from 5-7 public appearances a year? I believe he was either let
go or it's a work.

- Jim Ross was telling fans he had no plans on retiring as recent as his Q&A event in Scotland last week. Ross said he had no intention of retiring and talked about continuing his work in WWE developmental. Ross added that he would never retire and would always be there when needed. Ross also said that the day he would retire is the day they bury him.

Yup, that's what I'm starting to think because of the large amount of coverage it's getting and all these different sources talking about how he didn't plan on retiring anytime soon.

Jim Ross likely has what is called '**** you money.' Which is when you've achieved a level of financial stability and are comfortable enough with your professional achievements, to the point that you'll be content if you have no more in this field, that you can afford to be dismissive of any criticism you get. So, I'm guessing Vince McMahon talked to JR about the 2k Symposium and said that this shouldn't happen again, what you should do if Flair or someone else goes off the rails, etc. etc. and then JR in, probably the most diplomatic way possible, probably told Vince '**** you' and that was that.

I don't think it was just about Flair going off the rails it was quite clear JR was quite intoxicated
himself and you can't have a long time employee represent a fortune 500 company like that
especially when it's a symposium with a brand new business partner. If it was any other fortune 500
company Ross probably would have been let go the next day but since it's the WWE most people
got a kick out of it and Ross will probably be back in his limited role sooner rather than later.

I don't know if JR was drunk or not but I don't think that was really an issue. The first half of the panel, the only problem with it is that it was pretty boring. And if the second half had been like that I don't think anyone would've complained other than it being a little boring.
