Another Star Leaving WWE

Post#1 » by kblo247 » Wed Feb 5, 2014 3:31 am

Alberto Del Rio has reportedly been letting it be know that once his contract with WWE is up, he will be leaving the company.

According to PWInsider, Del Rio hasn't been happy with the direction of his character. He was once a main event player on the SmackDown brand as a World Champion, and now he is being fed to Batista.
While the match between the two hasn't been officially announced, Batista vs. Del Rio will likely be added to the upcoming Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event.

Del Rio is 36-years-old and has several years of mileage on him. It’s believed that he’s been very good with his money and shouldn't be in any financial trouble once he departs from the organization.

Not really shocking as he did say he would retire early, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him go to AAA since it will be covered in the US. He had success but never truly panned out IMO (Edges retirement situation), never got the reaction they wanted as a face or heel (Ricardo was more over) and with one top title now, I assume he sees him being an IC contender as a step down

Yeah I consider his run as not bad, not great, but serviceable. He came to work every day, put on solid matches, didn't connect how I think they wanted him too as they seemed to want him to be a Mexican JBL and heat magnet, but he did catch too much **** at times. I would understand if he stayed or left and don't think wwe or ADR is in the wrong as he is not a major player with a unified roster, and Mexico is his home just like lucha is his natural style. I also got to give him more respect than Sin Cara since he did learn English and wasn't too big of an ego to go to developmental

The last couple of years I have really enjoyed watching Del Rio wrestle, they did a pretty terrible job managing his character though pushing him too fast early on and then flip flopping him from face to heel back and forth so much the last year or so. He never really did catch on with a majority of the WWE audience and I don't think it would be a huge deal if he does end up leaving, I'd miss watching his wrestling matches though.

They can't seem to get another Hispanic/Latino star. I guess they will try to push Kalisto/Hunico both now and give Rey a lesser house show work load

was a great in ring worker who could tell a story and had the nuances to telling a story in the ring. couldnt ever tell a story on the stick though, i always felt the language barrier held him back a little, especially when going vs someone like punk.

also hated how often he squashed the same opponents for seemingly weeks at a time

wonder how he'd do in a comedy tag team playing the straight guy

I will miss him, he had an old school heel type persona that was very fun and refreshing.

They shouldn't have took the CARS from him as a face. They should have just went the Eddie route

Don't care about him leaving.

As an aside, I always laugh at how he has an old-school sh*tty soft wrassler physique.

In my mind, he was never a guy that was loved when he was a face and he was never truly hated as a heel. In other words, he's pretty replaceable.

Probably nothing ''soft'' about him, just because he's not roid monkey esque like Batista or Rock or even Cena.

Note: look at most people's GOAT pro wrestler lists, even top in the business today, there are more Del Rio, Punk, DB, HBK style builds than there are giant hulks of veiny monsters in there. Flair, HBK, Austin, Hart, Y2J etc...

I like Alberto Del Rio, I think he is a good in-ring performer that can put up good matches, he have this old school heel type of feel IMO for some reason when he first debut he kinda remind me of Rick Martel.

Anyways, I do think the WWE make a mistake for pushing him so fast when he first debut which they have done better job with him, and plus they should never separate him and Ricardo shouldn't split them apart. Another thing is they should have not never have Alberto speak on the mic only thing to have him speak is spanish but have Ricardo be his mouthpiece speaking both spanish & english for him to cut the promo. I think that will be wise to do but lot of times they have Alberto speaks in english and spanish even he was with Ricardo. That was my take.

And having him turn face was another mistake that never connect to the fans should keep that heel, and could do a better job using him too.

Can't say he didn't have a nice run. Personally, I didn't care much for him, but he is pretty good in the ring. Had some quality matches. Read something like this beforehand, though, so not surprised at all.

I think the WWE kind of boned Del Rio by continuing to bounce him between face and heel. He is a solid worker, but not a top tier guy so he won't be missed too much.

And I think he did a good job as a mid-card babyface. If there were more legitimate heels in the company, I think he could have got a longer run at it.

my biggest problem w/del rio (and it wasnt really his fault) is how many times he fought the same people. he's been booked as one of the few strong heels in the company, but sweet christ, how many times has he fought, sin cara, kofi, ziggler and mysterio?

and there's rarely any doubt or surprise in who was gonna win those matches either
