Greatest Face And Heel Of All Time.

Me and a friend were discussing the greatest heel of all time. Basically we came up with guys like HHH, Piper, Slaughter, Hogan, Flair, Mcmahon etc. Now As far as faces go I threw that in for the hell of it so here are some that come to mind.
Austin
Hogan
Rock
Savage
Undertaker
There are a ton more but if I had to pick the best heel and face I would go with Austin as the face and Mcmahon as the heel. Now I realize people will say vince isnt a wrestler and piper is the original bad guy or whatever but imo vince was as hated if not more than all of those guys. What are your guys thoughts?

As a face, I think it has to be Hogan. I mean, just look at the reaction WCW got when they turned him heel with the nWo.
For a heel, I'll go with Flair. He had a legendary career as a singles wrestler and as a member of the Horsemen...not to mention, he's regarded by many as the second most successful wrestler of his era after Hogan.

Don't think you can argue much with Hogan (face), Flair (heel).
As with any sports discussion, it's hard to compare through generations different guys. Would Austin have even been a face with the same character in the 80's? Could he have made for an even more awesome heel based on that character?
Also, during Monday Night Wars, things happened at such a high pace compared the the 80's so longevity in roles was greatly reduced.

I would go with Hogan and Bret as face. Heel is a tough one, can't go wrong with Flair and Piper.

The Bret/Shawn dynamic was awesome over the years.
During that final run before the screwjob and the buildup, one of the awesome things to watch was Bret being a face in Canada, heel in America and for Shawn the opposite. It was a great dynamic.

So many out there I will say this in no order
Top faces: Hulk Hogan, StoneCold Steve Austin, Sting, The Rock, Macho Man Randy Savage, and The Undertaker
Top Heels: Roddy Piper, Hollywood Hulk Hogan(When he turns heel in WCW.), Ric Flair, Vince McMahon, The Rock, & HBK.
Other notable worth mentions are for top heels: Bobby Heenan, Eric Bishoff, Triple H, Iron Shielk, Sgt Slaughter, Million Dollar Man, Jake The Snake Roberts, Bret Hart, & Kurt Angle(Him as a heel in WWE days was really good imo.)
Other notable worth mentions for top faces: Ultimate Warrior, Mick Foley, Bret Hart(While I think he have good face reaction in the states but I always think he have a better face reaction in Canada than in the states.), "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes.
NOTE: They are maybe some others I have forgot to mention. Now if you ask me to choose one the top face and top heel that is pretty tough to say but I will say for a face I say it's a tie between Hulk Hogan & StoneCold Steve Austin while someone like Sting and maybe The Rock follows. But I will say the greatest face of all time is tie between Hogan and Austin
As for the greatest heel of all time again tough to choose from there is a few options who I think deserve to be the greatest heel you got Vince McMahon plays as a evil boss who is one of the best heel of all time. You also got Roddy Rowdy Piper who was the villain back in the old days in the 80s, then you got the Nature Boy Ric Flair who is one of the true great heels leading one of the best fractions in prowrestling the four horseman. Then of course you got one guy who was one of the biggest face turn to one of the biggest heel in company when there was as hock he was that third guy and leading one of the biggest fraction the nWo Hollywood Hulk Hogan.
I think the greatest heels in the first tiers IMO is Roddy Rowdy Piper, Vince McMahon, Ric Flair, and Hollywood Hulk Hogan. While I think The Rock who was a great heel and have a great run as a heel is close to it as well.

I thought Sgt. Slaughter wasn't going to escape WM7 alive. That's a heel to me. When millions of people are watching you, everyone knows who you are, and there's no guarantee for your safety. Flair never clicked for me in that capacity... he was too likeable. He's far from the top overall heel, which I'd put as VKM, but the lead-in to WM7 was bananas. He put an Iraqi flag over Hogan!
WWF Hogan as top face.

This is where I would have went with it. His face run at the top for soooooooooo long made his heel turn the biggest in the industry. Perfect timing I think for it as well.
Another post had face: Hogan Heel: Vinnie Mac
also great choices that boss heel was brilliant and perfect for Austin to rebel against right at the top of the most successful timeframe in the business.

We are pretty close in age, at that time I wasn't old enough to appreciate his work, I just really hated him for being such a bad guy. Now having much more understanding on pro wrestling than I did back then, I love going back and re watching that stuff.
Even all these years later I dinstinctly remember a title match on Smackdown he had against Hardcore Holly, a guy who outside of this probably never had a match I was really drawn into, and I was rooting for Bob Holly like he was the greatest face of all time during this match. I remember walking to the corner store after Smackdown pissed off that JBL was still champ. I just wanted the belt off him so bad, I don't think there was another wrestler who I ever felt like I actually hated.

Let me say that Hogans heel turn was probably the single greatest turn ever ( despite Heenan kind of screwing up the call ) but i dont see him as a great heel. He was good for a brief period but it got stale after a while to because WCW screwed up the exit strategy from the NWO angle. I get why people think of him in that category but a lot of it was the NWO angle and the outsiders as well. Just my two cents on Hogan as a heel.
