"The Eighth Wonder of the World" André the Giant was the greatest big man in WWE history. The inaugural inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, André helped change the world of wrestling forever when he faced Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III.
Joining the WWF in 1973 his career featured an almost 15 year undefeated streak as he became one of the most beloved babyfaces of all time.
His feud with Big John Studd helped kick off the WrestleMania generation, but The Slam heard around the world changed wrestling forever, and André The Giant should always be celebrated for his part in making wrestling into what it is today.

20th? Totally shocked he placed so high.
Andre should easily be in everyone's top 10.

I admit, he wasn't on my list. The bulk of his career as a mega-draw was pre-85. I felt there were 20 guys with better resumes.

I had him on my list at 15. You make a fair point, but that WM 3 match was so big. There's a very real argument that match is, all things considered, the most important match in WWE/F history

Andre wasn't on my list mostly because the majority of his career was before the WM era and although he was significant in the initial WM era, he wasn't the same wrestler he was before the 80s.

That's not really debatable at all.
For me, it just came down to me thinking he didn't do enough in terms of character work or amazing matches to do it for me. Andre was a product of his era and was mostly a spectacle. If you were to somehow transplant him into the 90's, 00's, or 10's and he's just a really big guy and fans would treat him like Khali.

Didn't make my list either. I didn't think he did enough in the modern WM era.

I had him close to where he went. I know he didn't have a slew of important matches post '85, but he had THE most important match in history, so I couldn't leave him off. He also made everything he was involved with feel special. The "Great Khali" comment couldn't be further from the truth, in my opinion.

that's probably the only reason i gave him consideration, but ultimately didnt put him up there. of course that match is why i placed hogan so high so maybe my thinking was backwards there

The difference between the two (cause I had Hogan very high too) was that Hogan was in his prime and Andre was passing the torch sort of and Hogan was carrying the company going forward. I totally understand why people have Andre on their list or high, but because he was at the end of his career sort of lining up to the time we're starting this discussion it's also understandable why so many left him off too.

Exactly! If you place Hogan so high based on one match, shouldn't the other wrestler who put him over also get the same consideration?
Without Andre, does Hogan become the mega superstar he is today so quickly?

I don't think Hogan's entire legacy though is that one match, and to me that's the difference. It was obviously an important match set up Hogan to take over, but he was already the face before that match, it just passed the torch of eras.

Exactly! If you place Hogan so high based on one match, shouldn't the other wrestler who put him over also get the same consideration?

Not just Hogan, but WWE as well. Wrestlemania 1 was great but Wrestlemania 2 sucked. If Wrestlemania 3 was a flop who knows what domino effect that has on the company and on the Wrestlemania "brand".

I totally agree, you can't base Hogans whole career on that one match, but you also can't understate how important that one match was for the whole company and the whole wrestling world.
The WWE wouldn't have become the company it is today without that match, and half the credit should go to Andre. It's the reason he was put into the Hall of Fame first. With one slam he put over the whole next generation of wrestling.

I left Andre off my list.
Yes he had the big moment, but for most of the Wrestlemania era that he was alive for he could barely walk, let alone have a good match. The wrestling aspect played a big part in my list
