Mixed Match Challenge is wrestling at its purest. It combines the short-but-effective promos and character work of WWF's Golden Era with the in ring style of modern wrestling. The last tournament was a lot of fun. Each team was uniquely defined and portrayed with consistency. The crowd was into all the matches because teams found the way to get them interested: Get them involved! Everyone played to the crowd like it was an indy show and it really helped with crowd interaction. Here's this year's teams:
Raw:Braun Strowman & Alexa Bliss
Bobby Lashley & Sasha Banks
Finn Bálor & Bayley
Jinder Mahal & Alicia Fox
Kevin Owens & Natalya
Smackdown:The Miz & Asuka
Jimmy Uso & Naomi
Rusev & Lana
AJ Styles & Charlotte Flair
R-Truth & Carmella
My only problem is the exclusion of Daniel Bryan. The Daniel Bryan I love the most, the guy who did goofy stuff like this:
is the perfect wrestler for this kind of thing. It's a damn shame he was left off. He has a ready-made partner! Although, pairing him with someone equally goofy, like Billy Kay, would have been preferable to Brie, who has never been funny.
Do yourself a favor and watch. Like I always say, if you don't like MMC, you don't like wrestling.
