What a night for wrestling this is going to be (Evolve, G1, AEW)

Post#1 » by Dominator83 » Sat Jul 13, 2019 9:34 pm

Ok not totally sure if I should be creating a whole thread for this, but man wrestling hasn't given me a Hard-on like this in a pretty long time

Evolve anniversary special on the network

AEW live on B/R for free

New Japan G1 Climax on AXS TV

Im thinking right now on my main screen tonight will be the AEW special. But then again, G1 has a Jon Moxley match and a jay White match on the card. Evolve card aint no joke either. This is gonna be like the old days of when Monday nights were great of flip-flopping channels (or apps, lol) all night and gonna be hard to pick a lane.

Anyone else pumped for this?

Oh, and I hope Vince is taking notice that in this huge night of wrestling, none of it involves his (atleast not main roster). His shows are dying a slow death and hes gonna have to evolve (no pun intended) or die eventually

I ended up watching AEW live since the WWE Network has a replay of the Evolve Show at 12:30 am
and tomorrow afternoon so I can afford to wait and Daily Motion actually doesn't have the whole PPVs
like I thought so I'd have to go the torrent route which I can't be bothered.

As for New Japan I don't get AXS TV where I live so I could use the break lol. I might check out the Moxley
match after on Youtube if it gets posted on there.

It's the only thing I enjoyed so far I'm high on Jungle Boy Perry and Luchasauras. Also Brandi Rhodes
wrestling and getting a push is reminiscent of Shane wrestling and getting a push.

Aew kind of sucks, and that makes me sad. They’ve got a lot of work to do before they debut on tv. Just a rough product.

I mean, they're already giving us better wrestling than the WWE main roster has in years. Tonight was a free show and it was still a lot better than your average WWE show. Not sure what you're expecting. I think AEW obviously needs to fill out their roster, because the undercard is pretty weak right now, but that will work itself out over time.

The three way tag match tonight was phenomenal. Really digging the Dark Order. They have some absolutely awesome team moves. Really want to see them versus the Bucks.

Tonight was a real rough show to get through and to be completely honest I've found the last 2 AEW shows
to be boring outside a match or 2.

So many people are dying for some legit competition for WWE that they've jumped the gun and already anointed
AEW to be the best thing since sliced bread before even seeing what it's like first.

Tonight the commentary was a big problem god bless good Ol' JR but it's time just like it was time for Kurt Angle
in the ring. JR is pushing 70 and as a senior citizen he doesn't have the energy along with the other old guy Marvez
to be enthusiastic enough to make what you're watching exciting. You need that "bahhhh god" JR, or "Mamma Mia"
Mauro, or "Oh my God!" Joey Styles, or "tonight is the biggest night in the history of our sport" type of energy from
Tony Schivonne. They seemed to be just as bored as the crowd in Jacksonville seemed to be. Also JR is screwing up
a lot of lines and doesn't seem interested enough in doing his research on these new guys. Like the audience
doesn't know who a lot of these guys are and are watching them for the first time and we need a back story who
they are.

When you're watching sports and kind of stop paying attention for a minute whether you start checking your phone
or twitter or go to the fridge whatever and a big dunk is about to happen or a team is on a scoring chance and a goal
could happen the announcer raises his voice and gets excited and you instantly look at the TV to see what's going on.

Brandi Rhodes is gonna wrestle and get a push on top of that? Did AEW not learn anything from WWE and what's
going on with Shane McMahon?

Close to 4 hour show (including Preshow) Why??? They must not watch WWE at all people don't want to watch
wrestling for that long especially when the roster isn't deep enough for that. Hell I was watching a couple of old
SummerSlams this week and they were over in 2 hours and 45 minutes! Flowed so well even if a match was boring
it didn't matter because it was quick and painless.

I agree with Wolverine the Womens division is really bad probably the worst of any promotion right now...

In terms of the in ring product my only complaint right now is lack of diversity in styles. Everybody seems to be
a Vanilla midget spot monkey these days. Where have all the technical wrestlers gone? My biggest problem
with the Young Bucks a few years ago was they came across as more like stunt men then wrestlers. I liked
that Moxley and Janela brought a hardcore element last time.

Another glaring problem is they also lack the cool factor which I was hoping they'd bring from New Japan.
Right now the majority of the roster feels like guys and girls at a Star Wars convention or Japanese Amnie
convention dressed up in kiddie costumes. I would rather see the Cleaner Kenny Omega dressed in trench
coat and black sun glasses that looked like a million bucks than Kenny Omega dressed up as a Street Fighter
character.

The last problem I see developing is the main event scene where most of the top guys have feuded with
each other already so it won't be long before we see repetitive matches and feuds and their undercard
is extremely weak right now so don't see many guys elevated soon.

The positives for me so far?

- Great production
- Great venue tonight
- The backstage interviewer was better then anyone in WWE
- Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus and Private Party look like they have a high upside
- MJF (or whatever his name is) is fantastic on the mic
- They have proven main event guys that can deliver

Anybody watch Evolve yet? I thought it was pretty solid show. Love the atmosphere of the ECW arena too

I enjoyed that AEW show. I skipped the pre show, as I have for every AEW show thus far, so maybe that's why my opinion is higher than some others.

The three way tag match was great, the Lucha Bros were fun as always, and the final two matches were both really good. The Page/Sabian match ran too long, but the crowd got sucked in after that powerbomb on the ramp and the match itself was fine.

I do think we need to judge these free shows a bit differently than the actual PPVs like Double or Nothing or the upcoming All Out. The All Out card is looking pretty great.

Didn't like AEW last night but there were bright spots. I don't get the reasoning for not judging AEW's free shows, they are still advancing current storylines and setting up contenders so they should be rated just like DON.

true. The real make or break for them is gonna be when they begin Nitro (or whatever their weekly show will be called). Those shows are going to have to start off with a bang. hese last 2 PPVs have been fine considering they were free. But if i had shelled out $60 for them, then i would've been pissed

Saw a Wrestling Inc. Podcast with Matt Morgan reviewing the show and he made a good point on something
that AEW needs a lot of work on and is extremely underrated in the business and something that WWE has
always done well and that's entrance music and entrances. Even when the WWE product is awful there's
usually some wrestlers themes or entrances you enjoy watching or hearing all the time.

In TNA's hey day I felt that was one of their biggest flaws that everyone had horrible cheesy theme music
and bland generic entrances but they probably didn't have the money to invest into it like WWE and WCW
did and didn't want to possibly get sued ripping off real themes like ECW did lol. Outside of Cody Rhodes
there isn't any real good theme music right now to me.

As for the length of the PPV Cody admitted they went "a little long" but that he hired the workers he did
to "play their music" and he's not a fan of squash matches or quick matches. A common problem I heard last
night was a lot of fans were burned out by the time we got to the later part of the card and wanted to
see the main marquee matches. In this day and age people don't have the attention span and have more
distractions so it's easy to burn out.
