Dark Side of the Ring

Post#1 » by bondom34 » Thu Mar 19, 2020 3:00 am

Figured I'd post, not sure if people have seen this or not but season 2 debuts on the 24th. Been kind of starved for TV to watch and found this.

https://www.vicetv.com/en_us/show/dark-side-of-the-ring

Watched most of season 1 and really enjoyed getting some back story on things I hadn't seen before and even a few stories before my time (Bruiser Brody). If you're bored and haven't seen it and are into wrestling worth a watch IMO.

Watched the Benoit episodes, glad that David got to share his perspective.

Interesting they never mentioned all the "Fragile X" theories related to Daniel, I remember Jericho was pushing that at the time.

Two big takeaways from this special. I forgot how much I miss Eddie, and **** Benoit and anyone trying to humanize him.

I feel you could see the fear in the eyes of Chavo and Dean when they were talking about CTE.

I feel bad for him in that his mind is clearly warped from all of this. Apparently his goal is to wrestle in wwe as Chris Benoit Jr, replicating his father down to the wrestling style, ring gear and music. Something is not right there. I hope he gets the help he needs.

WWE won't go near him... but since he's close with Jericho he should join AEW also I'd like to see Chavo join
as well and get some of that Khan money and If I was Jericho I'd have Benoit and Chavo in the Inner Circle
as just valets. Benoit probably still needs a few years of training before actually wrestling.

I didn't see that at all. If anything, i thought i head him say screw WWE because nobody reached out to him

Yea that or if he actually wanted to follow his dad's footsteps, New Japan would be the place for him to get started and trained

Just getting to watch part two now. This is horrible and heartbreaking and tragic. Really no words.

Edit: And Christopher Nowinski was a name I forgot and had to look up.

Watched both episodes. A couple of things stand out.

Damn, Eddie was taken too early.

It was nice to see Jericho, Eddie and Chris make it to the top. They worked and earned it and WCW failed to understand what they actually had.

As far as Chris goes, it's really sad but understandable how he's been erased. It's sad what happened to Nancy and Daniel. I think Jericho said some poignant stuff at the very end. Chavo as well. The Chris that was there for the majority of his time was a good friend and good person and something happened that flipped the switch. Nothing can take away what he did. It's okay to be conflicted and remember your friend (like Chavo or Chris) or as fans, but then feel hate for what he did.

I was actually super high on Chris Nowinski I think he was the only guy from Tough Enough outside
of John Morrison I liked.

 Definitely had a moment of "that guy looks familiar" when I saw his entrance and never would have remembered his name. Didn't realize he really was a lawyer for sure though lol.

Watched the Benoit episodes back to back and shed tears.

Used to be a massive fan but with him, Eddie, Pillman & Owen (plus WCW) dying I just couldn't.

Benoit laying on Eddie's side of the bed and crying into Eddie's pillow broke me big time.

Like a level sadness I've never felt before.

Whole thing is just a terrible tragedy and I'm damn sure never watching it again.
