Obviously their hatred is one of the most well-known in wrestling, but I've never understood when it started. I've read that Bret was scheduled to defeat Shawn at Wrestlemania 13, Shawn refused to job, and that's where it started. I've also read that Shawn made comments about Bret's family and that's what began it. Are either of these true? If not, what event caused the dislike?

From what I've heard there are multiple causes but among them was Shawn Michaels during an interview strongly hinted that Bret was having an affair with Sunny(don't know the validity of the affair). I have also heard that Brett did not approve of Shawn Michaels then wild lifestyle and often let Michaels know about the disapproval(one of the reasons Michaels supposedly revealed the affair in retaliation)

I've also read that Michaels claimed they were having an affair. I'm hoping to get Bret's book soon at the library so I assume he goes into it there.

Pretty sure Shawn and Sunny were the ones having the affair against each other. Thats what sunny said in the 10th ani of raw.
