Which wrestlers had Championship potential?

Post#1 » by Celtsfan1980 » Wed Oct 14, 2009 9:49 pm

This is similar to a previous thread I had done except older wrestlers. Current wrestlers have two advantages over wrestlers of past years. There are two Championship belts rather than one, and the belt(s) change hand far more frequently than it used to. The question is if these wrestlers were wrestling today, which of them do you think would be Champions?

What do you mean? I always thought Jake Roberts could have made a great Intercontinental Champion but never saw him as World Championship potential. I said yes for all of the others.

Vader(NWA-WCW),Mr Perfect(AWA) and Steamboat (NWA) were world champions at one time or another

Things would have been a lot different if they were around today rather than earlier in wrestling. Mr. Perfect would be my top choice as somebody who would have made a very good champion for the WWE.

Mr Perfect had the look the skills and could talk on the stick he would be wwe champion for sure why he wasent in his time i dont know

Now roddy piper should of had the wwe championship many times but he didnt need a belt to get over he was over times 10 without it but if you ask roddy you know it bugs him a bit,

In todays wrestling world piper still has the talant on the stickk and i think his ring skills are better then cenas so he could be champion esay

And Vader being a former champion along with perfect also should of had a WWF championship under his betl hes a moster and tons of athtice abilty for a man of his size

I had read that Vader was actually supposed to win the Championship at Summerslam 1996 but Shawn refused to show up so they changed the result. Does anyone know if that's true?

Wouldn't surprise me. HBK was always a prick like that

Anyways, I voted Owen, Jake, DiBiase and Perfect.

The problem is if all of these wrestlers were fighting today theyd all be champions, if Jericho/Punk/Rey were fighting in the 80s theyd only be IC champs. Im not putting those guys down Im just pointing out how insignificant the belts have become today.
