I posted this in the twitter thread but I think it belongs here because of the connection to Dame

Read on Twitter

this could be negotiating 101 and it could be posturing

but we've heard more and more that Portland might keep the pick. And for those thinking that somehow, someway, the tea leaves are reading that Dame is going to Miami, I just don't think we'd be hearing about Portland keeping the pick if it meant Dame was going to demand a trade

I really believe that the impact of Sharpe....seeing his upside and the value of a 7th pick is informing both the Blazer front office, and Dame, about the value of a 3rd pick

What If Miami packages Lowry/Herro in a three team deal, with mostly picks coming back to the Blazers from both the other teams?

ok...a lot to unpack...but:

no way Dame is traded for any 2023 pick. Dame can't be traded until 3 weeks after the draft and there are way too many moving parts in that trade to hold the trade in stasis for 3 weeks. Monkey-wrenchs galore

Miami's 2026 first is encumbered...they can't trade it.The earliest pick they can trade is in 2028. That's 6 drafts and 5 years from now

Yup, and when we went out and got Mike Schmitz that indicated that the draft is going to be a big part of our strategy moving forward. If they are still very high on the talent at 3 after getting an up close look at them then you trust your scouts and get the guy you project to be a future star. High level rookies aren't going to win much on their own but they can contribute as a role player and get great experience that helps them grow the right way into winning type players, better for them (and us) long term than chucking shots on a bad team.

Lillard took the big extension knowing there may be some lean years he had to shepherd us through. He is right to put public pressure on us to improve and do everything we can because he has to be that voice for us but I think at the end of the day he is one voice in the room and is on board with us building the right way, knowing that his legacy and what we put together here under his leadership could long outlast him.

I also don't think our team is as bad as most non-Blazer fans seem to think. If we run it back we aren't really looking at another bottom 5 finish. We started last year off strong, lost a bunch of close games and had some injury issues, and then tanked out once we got too far behind but I think run it back with decent health and we are really right there in the playoff hunt again. Of course I would advocate changing up with coaching situation because I don't think it's doing us any favors especially closing out close games and failing to utilize one of the most clutch players in the league, but that might be tilting at windmills if Lillard, Cronin and co are still on board with Chauncey's vision at coach.
