Really great nuanced and well-balanced article taking a look at the last few times Top 10 picks were traded for active win-now players. The end result is that it really is pretty much a crap shoot. It has about as many wins/positive outcomes as it does disaster outcomes.

The only one that id say was a disaster was the Gasol trade

The Wizards one was a disaster also. Even if you just assume they'd take Rubio, but remember that a team doesn't have to take the same player the team took and Steph Curry got drafted 2 picks later.
