Tim Lehrbach wrote:I like Simons just fine and love Sharpe's potential, but Scoot should start day one. He's the most likely of the three to make a difference on the team's results early in the season, particularly defensively. If Dame is still around, we need to know what we have in this roster ASAP to maximize the possibility for success next year. Also, to put it more simply, I think Scoot is probably already going to be the best player of the three. Whether he holds off Shaedon long-term, I don't know, but Scoot's gonna come in like a wrecking ball and win us some games right away, I feel. Probably lose some others, too, but he raises the 2023-2024 Blazers' ceiling the most.

100 percent. Had to quote a second time as I love this post!

Scoot is the x factor moving forward and seems like a really good kid who people are gonna want to see succeed even from a personal level. I think it'll be easy for him to be a beloved athlete and member of the community and I really feel great about him moving forward

With Dame likely heading out, I would love to see Scoot and Sharpe starting as our 1-2, and having Simons coming off the bench. If Simons is willing to commit to it, he could have a Lou Williams type career as a perennial 6th MOYT candidate that just lights it up against other second units.

Scoot and Sharpe meanwhile, would be one of the most athletic backcourts today, and could become one of the best overall within a couple years.

Yeah, if no Dame on day one, it should be Scoot and Sharpe, though I have a feeling it will be Scoot and Simons.

You’re probably right, at least to start the year. I’m hopeful that since we were shopping Simons and not Sharpe with the 3rd pick, the FO views Sharpe as our SG of the future.

Of course, knowing our love of pairing 6’3 or shorter guards, we’ll probably get Scoot-Simons at PG/SG and then Sharpe at SF lol… :banghead:

Shae will be 6th man to start I would go to the bookie now on those odds

I'd take the odds on him being starting, but out of position at SF.

Ya, I dont see how you can keep SS out of the SL - we wont be a win-now team and he was flashing consistently as a starter near the end of last season.

In his 15 games as a starter last season he posted -

33mpg, 18.5ppg, 4.9rpg, 3.1apg, 45% FG, 36% 3PT, 77% FT

Kid is ready for the big lights - he is a starter and likely a 20+ scorer next season.

I don’t think he cracks 20 unless Ant is traded or injured. Not really enough shots to go around and all 3 guys averaging 20 imo. I also think Sharpe is gonna have a hard time at SF.

The guards that start ought to be the ones that play hard on defense. If Simons doesn't want to play hard on defense, he should be happy to be the sixth man, especially for 20 million bucks a year.

We need to get a proper guy at SF to cover Shae's and Scoot's backs. On the hand, the Scoot-Ant-Sharpe combo is going to be fun. Completely defenseless though, and rebounding like a high school team against NBA competition when we add Grant to the picture, but that might be a good thing for a tanking, right?

Let’s not get it twisted Ant is 10x the scorer Scoot is right now and will be a much better shooter for their careers. However Scoot is a floor general and downhill player that can put pressure on a defense and is a true PG.

It’s actually why I think they fit so well cause the other does what the other cant. I don’t think we’ll bring Ant off the bench for the next 2 years we have him so it’s gonna be either Ant and Sharpe starting or all 3 as I don’t think you can bench Ant or Sharpe for an unproven Scoot if your Billups.

I also think with Ame Lillar leaving Ant is a part of our core now and we won’t look to trade him unless a great offer comes along which I think is great cause he is an amazing player that will only continue to grow.

The thing I love about Scoot is he is a quick player that doesn’t walk it up the court, the amount of wasted possessions Lillar has had walking the ball up the court when we had a 5 on 4 is mad only to jack up a 30 foot brick. Scoot will be a breath of fresh air once he develops into a D Fox role (who I think is already better than Lillar honestly)

Now we just need a great Forward prospect centres are a dime a dozen
