Ayton has 11 boards a game and shoots 52/45.
Grant has 4 boards a game and shoots 39/33.
But the truth is that people want to trade both. We can lose just fine without either of them!
The best reason to prefer Ayton, is that he is 4 years younger and might be on the Scoot/Sharpe/Deni/Camara timeline.

well, yeah, I want all 3 of Simons-Ayton-Grant traded, ASAP.. If I had my way, Simons and Ayton would be headed out the door before Grant, but sayonara to all three. Same for Thybulle and Timelord although that's a minor impulse
as for Grant vs Ayton, Grant is a shooter and scorer and those kinds of players go thru slumps and cold streaks all the time.Happens to all of them. Grant is not a good rebounder, that's well known, but he's essentially a SF and his rebounding rate, while below average for a SF is not egregiously bad.
Grant is a legit NBA wing. He can play solid defense, when motivated. Meaning he has 2-way talent and 3&D skills. That's valuable for the most part
on the other hand, think about the skills you might want in an NBA C: rim protection, paint defense, rebounding, getting to the FT line, screen setting, high post passing, decent salary. Ayton only checks one of those boxes and that's rebounding. Having a 7' C whose best offensive skill is standing 17 feet from the hoop waiting for an outlet pass, then chucking up a shot without ever drawing a foul, and paying 35M/year for that is nuts
