Haha they're full of it, even if scoot is starting on day 1 I cant see Billups not starting jrue eventually. I dont like the trade for that reason
Jrue Holiday has won two championships with two different teams the past four years and has made all-defensive first or second teams six consequtive years until this season. Unless he´s injured, Jrue is going to start. Also the fact that Deni is such a good secondary playmaker makes up for some of the lack of Holiday´s shortcomings as the lead guard.

To me three of the starters are guaranteed. Jrue, Toumani, Deni.

Clingan probably starts at center, but if Robert Williams is healthy and can play every game he might get the nod given his experience.

Who is the fifth starter? Grant, Sharpe or Scoot? Thybulle as an outsider?

I expect Jrue, Toumani, Deni, Grant, Clingan to start and having a high energy group coming of the bench getting plenty of minutes. I imagine we will play a high energy, pressing game with a lot of motion on offense and lots of running leading to frequent substituions to keep guys fresh.

This. Sharpe, Thybulle and Scoot will be the first off the bench and will get plenty of PT.

I just don't see RWIII being healthy, so my real question is who is the other big that will play.

Sharpe isn't getting benched because of Jrue starting. Sharpe was better last season than Scoot

Agreed. Its jrue-sharpe-deni-toumani-clingan with maybe Grant starting at times.

And in response to the other post If robert stays healthy? Not even worth discussing he wont stay healthy. And even if he did thatd be the result of playing him 18 mpg. What i listed will be the starting lineup unless someone else is hurt then Scoot Grant or thybulle get worked in

Unpopular opinion - I don't care who starts. Feed the egos of the vets if you need to.
As long as Scoot and Sharpe get at least 30 minutes a night, and Clingan gets at least 24, I'm happy.

I don't think that is popular or unpopular. I think you are saying, give Billups a chance to coach and let him determine who plays when - I like it.

I don't think there is any question that Scoot, Sharpe and Clingan are going to get their minutes. Or that Jrue, Deni, Camara, Grant and Thybulle will get their minutes. I mean, the roster isn't that deep.

Scoot's minutes decreased from hi s rookie season to 26.7 last season. That's worrying.
Banton and Murray had 16.7 and 15.1 minutes over 67 games, that's a lot for players who are probably not in our long term goals.

If Jrue and Scoot are both getting 30 minutes a night, that means they are sharing the court for at least 12 minutes. Doesn't really matter to me if it happens at the beginning of the first quarter or the middle of the second.

Holiday has been playing alot of off ball the past 2 years in BOS. His usage is wildly low since the move from MIL to BOS - from around 22-25% to 15-16%. He should be fine playing 10-12mpg w/ Scoot.

POR has a 9-10 man rotation, not a particularly great one at present, but counting\hoping? on improvement from key young players.

Jrue - Scoot
Camara - Sharpe
Deni - Thybulle
Grant
Clingan - Yang

* cannot discount RW3 if he is healthy, he will play and likely will start knowing Billups

That means spot minutes for guys like: Reath, Murray & possibly Rupert\Cissoko

But you have 3? 4? guys that are not long for this roster in Jrue, Thybulle & Grant (4th would be RW3), so it is surprising they would not want to backfill the roster (11-15, 2-way) with some younger players at those positions, maybe they will, but to date, Cronin has shown a shocking lack of attention to detail when it comes to roster management. The good NBA teams are continually infusing their team with younger players at the EOB\2-way & POR mgmt just does not prioritze that to their own peril IMO.

and again, the most critical rotational spots 1-8/10 are not really being improved upon either, instead they are doubling down on internal growth as the "cure all". Maybe you can count Jrue a rotational "upgrade" over Simons, that remains to be seen. Overall (when healthy) he is a better player, certainly a winning player, but @ age 35, & showing concerning signs of decline and myriad of injuries, not sure if he will have the impact the team\fans think he will.

Might be nice to have 3rd PG? Another b\u forward?

It shouldn't be.... Scoot's minutes increased dramatically at the end of the season when he was playing better. Also his total minutes were down insignificantly. Given how very poor he was his first season, it is nice that he still received the same minutes. If he continues to improve (which I think he will) his minutes will be up. Honestly, I think they will be over 2000 minutes this season if he stays healthy.

I don't think they both need to play 30 minutes per game - I would like to see Jrue's minutes in the mid-20s but... and I would be happy with Scoot getting mid to high 20s. Reminder - there is going to be a portion of the season where Jrue doesn't play and Scoot is going to have to play too many minutes.

Banton doesn't matter any longer - Murray :nonono:

And unlike all the pairs of 6"3 combo guards we have been trotting out for a decade, Jrue will be solid on defense in those 12 minutes. :D

Guessing...

Jrue will play low 60s high 50s games this season if his track record is an indicator. He will probably play high 20s minutes.

His usage will bounce back up - but not into the mid 20s, more like very low 20s or high teens.

As mentioned, his D will be solid (if no longer spectacular.

So, even if he plays 8 minutes per game with Scoot it will be fine for Scoot. And there will be the 20 odd games Scoot is starting.

I guess Jrue might be coming here after all :)

Interesting that he never met (or recognized) Brian Grant before. Did he call him Ryan?

Listening to Weltman tonight (ORL GM), I don’t think they were ever going to trade for Simons, as he stated they wanted to address shooting w/o sacrificing their defensive identity. Simons was never going to be that guy, but Bane is.ORL overpaid for him, but he fits what they were looking for

If the Celtics are trying to trade Simons, that just shows that they never really wanted him, and just wanted to get rid of Jrue, which makes the fact that Joe originally agreed to send them two 2nd round picks even more embarrassing.

Agreed. Joe must have been negotiating with himself to offer up value to trade Simons to Jrue.
