From 12th to 4th*....making up 6.5 games on the conference leaders, passing eight teams in less than six weeks. Going from 7 games under .500 to 9 games over....are you kidding me?
To do what the 91-92 team did was amazing...but that was a very good team that was in the Finals twice in three years. This is a bunch of diaper dandys not knowing any better making a HUGE move. This road trip is defining and if they can come out of this 4-3 or better, they then come home for six in a row.
Still learning.....but how fun to watch.

I believe that would be the way the standings as far as seeding in the playoffs were determined. Portland would be 4th seed because they would theoretically have won the NW division.
I'm wondering, if portland was the 4th seed and Dallas was the 5th seed but had a better record then Portland, would the Blazers still have homecourt advantage in the 1st round against the mavs?...I'm thinking yes
and I wonder if that has happened before...

R11...thanks, I edited the games back.
Sure, Portland is still 'behind' teams they are ahead of because of division leader status. Either way, to only be 3 games out of the best record in the West after bein within reach of the #1 lottery selection again is quite an accomplishment for the youngster.
Wizenheimer....I believe division winners host the first round and after that there is a re-seeding. Portland technically would be the #3 seed and would host #6 New Orleans. If the top four seeds won, I think they then might have to go on the road for the #2 seed. However, if they played a team that had been a lower seeded team in the 2nd round with a better record they would have to open on the road. I think that is the way it works....anyone else know for sure?

Ahh, playoff seedings. That makes sense. 4th seed or 6th place, it's all good!

No. Division winners do not. For instance last year Utah won the division (I believe) and were 4th seed, however Houston had a better record and had home court advantage.

in the first round I don't know that's the case. I think HCA goes to the higher seed in the first round. After that HCA is determined by regular season record. At least that's my understanding...might be wrong
"Homecourt advantage for any series is determined by record, not seed. So, it's possible that the 5 seed could have homecourt advantage over the 4, or that the 6 seed could have homecourt advantage over the 3."

ok, so i was wrong then...thanks for url
It kind of makes me wonder the purpose of seeding by methods other then record then. I guess it's to keep up interest in the division races.
