^I'm super biased because I loved him with Oden at Ohio State, but Mike Conley has the potential to be an excellent PG. He's got amazing court vision and he's extremely quick. The problem is that he doesn't have a lot of size and he needs to work on his shot.
But even as a huge Conley fan I'm pretty sure there is no deal that works for us and Memphis. They are going to way way way overvalue him because they want him to be the second piece to their rebuilding process alongside Gay. Regardless of the number of PGs they have Conley is certainly supposed to be the number one guy.
I agree with other posters, if you think we are overpaying for Harris we are going to be really overpaying for Conley. I'm curious though what people think about Crittenton, if I remember correctly we worked him out before the draft this year...anyone know much about him?

I think Crittenton is going to be good once he gets some good playing time. I remember hoping KP would swing something to get him on draft night. He has good size at pg at 6'5" and as I recall was a pass first point guard with excellent scoring ability and an above average defender in college. He'll probably be somewhat of a project but not like and Outlaw or Webster. give him about 2 years and I think he could be a borderline all star talent.
here's what nbadraft.net had to say about him:
NBA Comparison: Steve Francis
Strengths: Tremendous combination of size, athleticism and playmaking ability ... Quick first step ... Excellent vision and passing skills ... His size allows him to see over defenders and make passes that the average 6-2 PG could not ... Shows great heart, very competitive. Wont back down from a challenge ... Very quick, an elite level athlete ... Loves to dunk on players ... Excellent body strength ... Rhythm shooter, with good slashing and scoring ability ... His huge hands give him excellent control of the ball ... Very unselfish player ... Excellent foot speed, overall quickness and effort makes him a tough defensive player ... Works hard to improve his game, very coachable ... Has a great attitude, confident but not cocky ...
Weaknesses: Needs to improve upon his outside shot, which is solid but can improve ... Can be too unselfish at times trying to get everyone involved when he is the top scoring option ... Can be too aggressive defensively and get caught reaching, picking up unnecessary fouls ... Needs to prove himself on the college level. Become a great decision maker and learn to lead a team on the next level ...His ability to play the point guard position is very good, but he can continue to improve upon dictating tempo and learning the nuances of the position ...
I don't know what it would take to get Memphis to give him up. Maybe Frye and a 2nd or two would be enough since they are thin up front now. Who knows, it might take less than that.

If Portland wanted Conley (I'm not convinced they do) then a possible trade considering Memphis's cost cutting program would be:
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=2754~2009~454~3025~3195~2171~558&teams=29~29~29~29~22~22~22&te=&cash=
Jones, Frye, Sergio, and lafrentz
for Conley, Miller, Darko
It kills portland's cap-space plan, but then any trade for quality will. Miller replaces Jones in the rotation, and Miller has played a lot of SG as well. So for the sergio lovers, I suppose Jack could be substituted in the trade for Sergio. Darko replaces Frye in the rotation, and while he isn't the mid-range threat that Frye is, he is more rugged around the basket and would help in rebounding and shot-blocking.
Besides, Jones could opt-out this summer and resign with Portland for the MLE...
(that's for the Jones-lovers)
If memphis balks at sending Darko and insists on sending Cardinal instead, then Portland keeps Frye and sends
Jones, Sergio, Lafrentz for Conley, Miller, and Cardinal
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=130~3195~558~2009~454~3025&teams=22~22~22~29~29~29&te=&cash=
This all pre-supposes that memphis is determined to cut costs. It kind of looks like that, and considering their last trade, either one of these are good for them.

The only thing of interest for Memphis is Webster and pick, which is not enough for cConley, but is too much for Crit or Lowry, atm at least
if you can claim that miller, darko, and conley are all "very good players" with conley having "superstar potential"...then the same could be claimed for most of portland's roster.
I'll grant that Miller is good. Darko is lot more of a 'stretch' then a bit. Meanwhile, Conley can't stay healthy as he's missing more games right now and hasn't played 50% of the season. And when he does play, he doesn't put up any better numbers then steve blake. Frankly, "superstar" is overstating potential to the nth degree.
If Memphis isn't trying to cut costs, they won't trade any of their talent. if they are then this trade accomplishes a lot for them. And the 2nd trade I proposed had portland taking Cardinal and the griz keeping Darko.

I heard Memphis is trying to dump salaries in order to sell the team so I don't see them taking on a bad contract. Perhaps we could get something out of them, but I would think it's got to be an expiring contract we send out. What do we have that is expiring... Jones? Anyone else?
