Blazers should sign Magloire

The Nets just released Jamaal Magloire and this team needs some toughness sounds like a No-Brainer to me.

No they shouldnt, Portland is better suited playing the games with who they have. Not to mention if Mags were gonna take a vet min contract he would most likely go to a team what is a big time championship player. Seeing as Dallas lost Diop in the Kidd trade it wouldn't be the worst move for them to get another big body.

I wouldn't mind bringin' back Magloire at all.

That said, I can't imagine he'd want to come back to Portland. Not that he hated it here or anything, but he'll want to goto a championship team that can give him some minutes so he can get his value up and get a new contract this summer.

He's be a good fit in Dallas. With the loss of Diop, they need some depth at C. Seems like a pretty natural fit.

He could also head back to the Hornets. They have been worried about not having a deep enough bench, and I don't have a clue who backs up Chandler in New Orleans. So that's another nice fit.

Looking at the list of teams right now, Orlando would actually be a fantastic fit for Magloire. They're in desperate need of a big to play alongside Howard. Howard could slide over to PF and Magloire could step right in to a starting role at C. Orlando gets the big they need and Magloire gets the exposure he needs for his next contract. Win win.

I suppose he could also fit in with Detroit. I don't know if he could get the starting C spot away from McDyess though.

Last but not least, he'd be a really nice fit in Boston. He'd have a legit shot at getting the starting C spot away from Perkins.

Overall, there are a lot better options for Magloire than him coming back to Portland.

I wonder if it's just coincidence that NJ cut Magloire at the same time that Dallas 'suddenly' needs help at C after the big Kidd trade.

hmmm...if magloire signs with the Mavs, could a fix have been in?

My guess is Nets waived him so he can try to sign with a playoff team looking for backup center help in the playoffs. Mags probably doesn

yep, i could be sure he wanted (and maybe asked) for this to happen so he could go to a playoffs team with BIG chances of being an nba champion.

I can relate to your suspicious mind but I doubt Cuban and Thorn would risk the mighty wrath of Stern for Mags.

maybe not, but after the "stackhouse affair", I'd say cuban and thorn had at least one other 'fix in'

I'm also wondering if that scenario would be specifically forbidden in the current CBA. After all, Magaloire still has to go through the waiver process for 48 hours, so any backroom deal could be trumped by a team claiming Magloire off waivers (as if)

The Stackhouse thing was more like a loophole Stern didn't like anyone trying to exploit. However, if there is an under the table agreement that Nets would waive Mags so that he could join the Mavs, that would be on par with the Joe Smith cap circumvention. Your point about clearing waivers is true but he is certain to clear. How many teams have $4 million in available cap space and want to spend it on a backup center?

probably not many, although apparently the Bulls accrued a 5 million TPE yesterday and they could use some help up front, especially at C.

The warriors still have a large exception left from the Richardson trade and Biedrens just had surgery and will miss several weeks. It's hard to see Mags fitting in there though.

II'm betting that he goes to the Mavs. He fits perfectly there. Also, there's no way I'd want him back in portland, he's Waaaaay too slow.

play defense, but he cant.. .

He can rebound some & can
take up space down low.. .

But if you give him the ball dont
look for it to be passed back out.

I think I rather have Przy play.
Its not like Przy plays a ton of
mins, so just have Przy play
the mins you would give Mag.

Jamal was a good soldier and accepted the reduced minutes he had in portland with little public complaint, but..........

He is a slug, he is slow up and down the court, does not provide outlet passing and is a black hole once he gets the ball in his hands.

He is not what we need in a big man, we need a big that is aggressive and goes for boards aggressively along with playing tough d down low(Once Joel is out our opponents just start running layup drills)
