I watched a game with Detroit versus Boston and was actually surprised at how decent the Boston announcers were. They were slightly homerish, but I think they atleast kept their perspective on the NBA from being on the bottom all those years. Although sometimes they would just go on random rants about the most random things that had nothing to do with the game, even when the game was really close it was strange. It almost seemed like they were not to into it sometimes, but I still liked em for the most part.
Its a shame that Rice has only seemed to get worse as the years go by, I don't really mind him to much myself but I could totally understand why someone would not like him. It was sad watching the recent Seattle game and hearing Snapper Jones announcing for the Sonics, that hurt as a Blazer fan that hurt bad. That guy was amazing thats imo one of the bigger losses to the organizations recently then some of the others.

I didn't really start the thread to bash your announcers (although they do seem like a bunch of crybabies when they were sulking about "big bad KG").... Obviously anyone who has listened to Tommy Heinsohn knows he says some pretty bizarre things from time to time. I was just wondering what the whole "Blakey" thing was about. Seemed like a boy crush or something.

If you cant take the stick out then maybe you should
go listen to all of the other cookie cutter announcers.

I don't know about you guys, but I found Snapper very dry and boring. He looked like he was going to fall asleep half the time. True he knew his stuff, but his presentation was very laking. Rice is very lively and a fan of homerish proportions!
I don't want my home announcers to analyze and be neutral. If the game is on the line and the call is close, I want my announcers rooting for the home team! Frankly I don't think our guys are that bad when it comes to facts. They have good chemistry and sure Rice spouts off some bad stats or some untruism, but Barret usually gets him back in line.
So overall, I think I enjoy the banter between these two rather than I did when Snapper was on, as Snapper... well really did look like his fish counterpart & could come off as rather dry.

Yes, maybe so.. .But it doesnt change the fact
that KG is a giant d-bag. I know first hand so
please dont try to say hes not. Its cool tho,
you can have a different opinion.. .Im just
saying Ive heard & seen the guy up close.
Youre also right, Rice is pretty bizarre, lol.
The name Blakey is somewhat annoying to.
But I still enjoy Rice & can put up with Blakey.

What did he say that was full of crap??
I just wanna see if it was a joke or him
being silly or if it really was/is crap.. .
Thanks!!
The most obvious undisputable case of Rice being full of crap is one of the 50 times in every game he goes on and on about how great Joel Przybilla is. You would think Joel Przybilla is an all-star. I have nothing against Joel but if he deserved 10% of the praise he gets from Rice, he would in the all-star game instead of Roy. In general, Rice's commentary is not honest. I have no problem with his humor but I wish he would throw in some occasional honest insight.

Youre right, he does go on about Joel. But
he only does it when its so plain to see that
the Blazers need size, rebounding & defense
in the paint. Im not sure thats being full of crap.
I agree with you tho, he can go overboard.. .
Asfar as being honest, I think what he says is
honest when being a homer, and I dont think
anyone can Mike & Mike are not homers.. .
I guess it comes down to opinion, but I like
my Blazers announcers as homers. I think
they should be, theyre the BLAZER announcers.

personally, i find mike rice entertaining. my mike rice season highlight took place during our first road visit to utah this year. with the blazer protecting a decent lead...
rice: utah is going to get physical with the blazers.
(a minute or so passes)
rice: utah wants to turn this into a hockey match.
(45 seconds later)
rice: utah is going to try to turn this into a STREET FIGHT!
(calls game a street fight five more times, mixes in "hockey fight a couple more times for good measure)
rice: the jazz want to start a BACKYARD BRAWL!
(late fourth quarter)
rice: the jazz are trying to start a HOLY WAR!!! wait, am i aloud to say that here?
good times.
