I completely agree that we should take the BPA, and I completely agree that Beasley seems to be better. Where I disagree is on the assessment that it is even close between him and Rose. Beasley is an absolutely beast, has the size to carry it to the NBA, and that beastliness extends from the rim to about 30' out. If we get him, we look to move Roy full time to PG, put Martell or Rudy at SG, and either play Beasley at SF or play him at PF and trade Aldridge. Frankly, I don't think we need to trade LMA right away on this, as there is a significant chance that Beasley can play SF successfully next to him because of his range. Plus, it would be totally cool to see them swapping places with each other over and over again during games looking for mismatches.
I agree. If Beasley is really a Carmelo like talent (I've not watched him play even once, so I can't judge), then he's too good not to take a chance on. I said those things you wrote above about an Oden-Aldridge-Randolph frontcourt rotation, so you better believe I'd like to see a combination feature Oden, Aldridge, and somebody who figures to be a lot better than Z-Bo--and could log minutes at small forward, to boot.
On the other hand, if I take a look at Beasley and decide he's not really a clear #1 overall talent, I'd think long and hard about cashing in the pick for Rose or Mayo and "considerations" or send it to somebody desperate to overpay for a top talent (no ideas come to mind, though).
However, if Beasley seems like a good team guy and Roy/Oden/Aldridge/Martell can keep him in line and teach him the straight-and-narrow
Haha, subtle.
