I was checking the trade board today and read through a Memphis draft day plan where a deal similar to this was eventually discussed.
It is contingent upon Memphis landing the 2nd pick in this year's draft and Beasley being off the board. Memphis then decides they like Rose more than their current crop of PGs.
Portland Out:
2008 1st rounder (13)
Raef LaFrentz
Martell Webster
Channing Frye
Highest 2008 2nd rounder
Portland In:
Mike Conley
Mike Miller
Brian Cardinal
Next year our line-up is:
Conley/Blake/Rodriguez
Roy/Fernandez/Jack
Miller/Jones/Cardinal
Aldridge/Outlaw/McBob
Oden/Pryzbilla
I'm really not sure that I see Memphis doing this unless we were to swap out Webster or Frye for Outlaw, in which case I'm sure many more people will be against it, but what do people think about either version (keeping Outlaw or giving him up). Is this a good direction? We give up the cap plan and don't get the chance to try moving up in the draft, but we really round out our starting rotation and fill positions of need. For the record I'm also a big Conley fan.

I'd be far more for something like this if it were a smaller deal. I hate the idea of having Mike Miller on our team because the guy just doesn't play defense at all and he's very expensive for what he brings. I'd be far more interested in Outlaw and picks for Conley by itself (which I believe will work once Outlaw's base year provisions expire).

I like that one. Not a fan of bringing in Miller, and not a fan of trading Martell. Not a huge fan of Conley either, but I would be willing to acquire him if it didn't break the bank.JD45 wrote:I doubt Memphis does that deal. Miller has a lot of value.
But they would probably do:
LaFrentz, Frye, #13 for Conley, Cardinal and Collins if they picked Rose.

I'm not a fan of Conley. Don't have a huge explanation. Just not a fan. Don't think he'd compliment Brandon very well.
I'd much rather hang onto the 2009 cap space plan in the hopes of getting someone that fits our team better than use LaFrentz to pick up Conley.

I know this is probably sacreligious at this point, but it doesn't really matter so much if he's a mediochre compliment for Brandon because he has a long history of being a tremendously good compliment for Oden. And let's face it, guys--Brandon's our most important player now and our team leader, but he's good enough to lead us to a 6th seed at best. We'll go as far as Oden can carry us going forward, so how well players compliment Oden should be the deciding factor, not how well they'll compliment Roy.
This is no to say that we shouldn't look for a guy that fits well with Roy, but that if we can get a player that we know can team with Oden and be dominant we need Roy to adjust his game, not the other way around.

I wouldn't offer much more than the 13 for Conley. He hasn't proven anything yet, and he's going to be burried on the Memphis depth chart in that scenario. I'd do say our pick, McRoberts and our 2nd, and MAYBE a future protected first. Maybe. But that's about it.
If McBob doesn't fill the salary requirements, then I'd sub in Jarret Jack, and send Jack to a team that needs a PG and send a decent piece to Memphis, for example, Jack to Denver, JR Smith to Memphis.

Conley is a step sidewise at best. Hes not
better then Blake. Its nice tho that he would
have a connection with Oden in how to play
with him & get the most out of him but if you
put any good PG with Oden, that PG will do
the same after a little while. I rather Pritchard
try and go after a more proven PG. Who that
would be, im not sure who is to be had.. .
I like Calderon but im not sure the Raps would
trade him. It would probably take a lot.. .
