Did You Know? (Qyntel Woods)
Nah, this has nothing to do with Tiger Woods, even though that was a treat to watch earlier. I just had it brought to my attention that we drafted Qyntel Woods out of Northeast Mississippi COMMUNITY College. Cannot believe it. We spent a first rounder on a punk from JUCO!

It's not like Northeast Mississippi Tech would have been much better. When a school has "Northeast Mississippi" in its name, that's trouble right there.

How is drafting a guy from a JUCO all that much worse than drafting a kid from high school? Besides, he was committed to Memphis but had to go to a JUCO because he didn't have the grades/scores to meet the NCAA requirements.
Anyway, if you're wondering why he was drafted, check out this profile from NBAdraft.net and you'll get an idea (and probably a helluva 20/20 hindsight chuckle):
Strengths: (Based on hearsay) Possibly the most talented prospect in the entire 2002 NBA Draft if he declares. Has skills that are unteachable. Part of the new breed of NBA players, of the Tracy McGrady, multi-skilled, ultra athletic types. A do it all player. One NBA insider I spoke to said he will be a top 3 pick and may end up the best player in the entire draft class.Comparing him to McGrady, he probably isn't the run jump athlete but his handle and shot are better. More importantly, "He's a good kid. I've met him and talked with his family, and he may not have taken the usual course to the NBA, but he's a good kid." Very versatile, extremely skilled wing player, with great size and quickness. Can handle the basketball extremely well at 6-9, scores with a variety of moves to the basket, and has a nice shooting stroke. Explosive player with very good scoring ability.

It just is extremely rare man. Junior college pro prospects? I would imagine he would've been draftable out of high school and they wouldn't look at a single year of Junior College and say my what a find. I was looking at some sites about that earlier, and even learned some history about his current team "The Reds"

I am feeling a little confusion between "Good kid" and Macoley Culkin's psychopathic portrayal, "Good son".

Qyntel Woods (compared to McGrady) was another example of a world of talent, but didn't have the brains and desire to make it in the NBA. For the old timers he reminded me a lot of Billy Ray Bates (had Michael Jordan skills).
Anyway, I saw that Qyntel signed a deal with a team in Greece, Olympiacos.

i always thought his best game was this game

i remember this was the game that portland had a big lead and then the jazz came back in the 4th. patterson had a sick alley oop, pippen played great, and woods put on a show in the 2nd quarter. a couple alley oops.
that was the best i have seen him. i have some of the highlights on tape.

Not to take this too far off-topic, but that boxscore cracks me up. Looks like it was "just another day at the office" for Derek Anderson

That's the same game I was referring to. I thought he had more than 10 points though. I remember it being his best game to date because the local press interviewed afterwards and like a lot of young players who never realy dealt with the press he had that deer in the headlights look.

I'm sure DA had a sore tooth or some other significant injury that affected his play. As far as I'm concerned SA still owes us big time for jumping in there and taking DA off of their hands. IIRC SA was going to re-sign him until we came in with a better offer.
