Mike Miller bandwagon

Post#1 » by kumquat » Thu Mar 20, 2008 10:46 pm

I think he's the guy we should be targeting in the offseason with our our tradeable pieces. For the right price memphis would have a problem with getting rid of him with Rudy Gay as their man for the SF spot.

High bb IQ
Can take over scoring
Can win games single handedly when hot
Good rebounder
Good passer
Scrappy defender
Can get to the basket

The guy is a proven vet who is deadly from 3pt range and isn't afraid to drive to the basket. You saw what he could do around good players at the olympic trials, some games he was close to the best player there. He's an upstanding community guy and his contract isn't too bad.

I like him but I'm not sure that he's worth giving up someone like Martell or our pick for him. There are plenty of players that can shoot that can be had for less money than Mike Miller (James Jones for one) and I think the Blazers would be better off just keeping jones or getting another shooter. Looking at contracts, the Blazers would have to give up Joel Przybilla or Raef for miller and 1) I'd take Joel over Miller and 2) Miller isn't worth wasting capspace on. Raef could get us so much more of a return.

Let me tell you he's a huge upgrade over James Jones. The only problem I have is getting someone with the capspace we have won't be easy, all the good players are restricted and you will find the good players who get traded for capspace is because their team isn't performing. This has been Martells year to step up, he's been a bit better than last year, but he's just not an assertive guy. Next year is a time to win, we need some upper tier vets on the team.

Absolutely not, but it's not like jones is any better, Miller is just as good a team defender. I'd take Martells one on one D over both.

Ugh. I hate Miller. He's like a poor man's Michael Redd--completely one dimensional, but not all-star calibre at that one dimension.

Next year will be his 9th in the league and while a nice shooter, I'm not sure he brings enough else for the type of contract he has. Plus, I'm not sold on his knees.

I'd go the other way around, there's not much redd does better than him and miller is content being a role player. The main difference is Redd puts up 20 shots a game. period. Miller is a 40% career 3 point shooter. He'd be on par creating his own shot too. 6+rpg when playing at sf over his career is nothing to scoff at, a wayyyy better team player than redd. You saw the difference when on the olympic team. It's a guy like this who can slot in and step up when needed is what this team needs.

I just don't see it, Kumquat. I see a player who does well on bad teams and does nothing to make his teammates better. I see a player that is a very poor passer with mediocre handles. I see a player that just doesn't bring near enough to the table to justify his huge contract. Like I said--don't like him. No sir.

I'd love to get Mike Miller for the Blazers if it means we can move up in the draft also. I don't really care how much we would have to give up for him.

Lafrentz, Webster, Frye, Jack #13 for Memphis's 1st, Mike Miller, Collins is perfectly fine with me.

Blake/Pick/Sergio
Roy/Rudy
Miller/Jones
Aldridge/Outlaw
Oden/Przybilla

Thats a very very very solid line-up starting and a very very very strong bench 1-5. We wouldn't have any extra contract obligations beyond Miller and the pick which is ok and our cap holds on Frye, Jack or Webster would be gone for 2009/2010.

listening to interviews of KP and Quick's reactions from the Darius Miles news though it seems like the plan is still going to be going full forward cap relief for 09/10 when we can either make an offer for an elite player or flat out trade for one sense we won't have to match contracts.

I don't think they are going to try and obtain a player whos contract will be an issue in 09/10 but instead will try to move up in the draft.

The key to realize is that Miller is a role player and it isn't worth breaking the bank to acquire him. That offer isn't breaking the bank but if the Memphis pick is top 2, I don't think Memphis does this deal.

I really like Miller. No, I would not trade our 1st round pick for him(Because we need to upgrade the PG position too), but I would give up Webster+Jack+Frye+2010 1st round pick(lotto-protected) for Mike. If the asking price is any higher(IE. the Grizz demand more than our 'depth'), I would not go for it.

I don't think Memphis would do the trade unless they were picking at #3 or #4 anyway which is where they are projected. Looking at the salary numbers for that 11 player line-up it puts our team at $50.4 mil mil in 09/10 if we resign James Jones to 4 million that year. If we used our team option to waive Blake though we could be around 14 million under the cap to go after a FA.

TRADE HIM!!
(picture)

Oden looks awesome, not like some 12yr old girl...

note: I know his hair has nothing to do with his talent. But he's pretty much the only other player I can't stand looking at more than Jack...

Obviously, I'd be down with that trade, but we'd probably have to take on Cardinal instead of Collins. I'd do it either way, as we'd probably have our choice of Mayo or Gordon.

Mayo / Blake
Roy / Fernandez
Oden / Przybilla
Miller / Jones
Aldridge / Outlaw

PLEASE!? I've been good ALL year, Santa!
