Payroll question

Post#1 » by feoekells2 » Fri Mar 28, 2008 3:08 am

You guys will be shedding Wafer, McRoberts, Blake, and potentially Miles in terms of salary. That leaves you in great cap position and Oden is back. It will be the youngest team and in position to keep your assets long term. The only question is, hoopshype says that LaFrentz and Francis will still be on your payroll, what's up with that?

If you are implying the 2008/09 salary, then you are wrong. Blake is guaranteed next season and then a team option in 2009/10. Wafer will be gone and hopefully Miles will be medically retired. I think McBob got two years guaranteed, but at his money he could be traded for a pick or just waived. Lafrenz and Francis will be on their last year with Portland in 2008/09. That is when Portland will have cap space unless they us Raef in a trade next season.

Also, this is a better salaries site;

Yeah, our capspace plan is aimed at gaining capspace before 09'-10' so this offseason isn't significant in terms of cap space. Next summer is the big bang (hopefully).

The payroll news for 08/09 mostly just makes Paul Allen happy. If Miles comes off the books, Allen doesn't pay substantial luxury tax this year and in 08/09.
