I think someone mentioned this before but I feel compelled to mention it again:
Our combined Center-position posted 25 points, 19 rebounds, 6 blocks, on 9/13 shooting.
Is it really that much better to have that kind of statistical prowess in one player rather than two, considering that our centers never play at the same time? Obviously Dwight Howard has the ability to take over a game unlike our centers (yet), but from a purely statistical standpoint, I like our position.

Last night’s game means nothing more than 1 win. NBA teams (other than last place 20 win teams) don't play defense the way the Bulls did last night. The Bulls played no team defense at all. On most nights, the Blazers are going to be contested and will need to play better than they have so far to get 50 wins and make the playoffs.

Can always count on you D to be the giant wet towel over the game. Come on we destroyed them lets just enjoy that for a minute then we can move on. Although i do agree i kept thinking to myself throughout that game that we should have been beating them worse and there was definetly some sloppy play in there.

I understand the need for perspective, but come on now. I think we've played well enough so far to get 50 and make the playoffs, considering our "strength of schedule", number of road games etc. Doesn't mean we won't get better as we are really just now getting a little team chemistry going with all the new players and lineups. We will be able to rev up the running game more as the season goes on and Greg gets fully into shape and integrated as well. Get out your shades D, the future looks bright!

I mentioned this to my roommate. I kind of like this over two players. Together they have twelve fouls to work with and one could be having an off night and the other could pick it up. Both have a different look they bring, which I am fine with.
LaMarcus for Heisman!!!

Also I think Joel is benefiting from the team's new focus on Greg. I know they aren't in the game at the same time, but the Blazers are being conditioned to drive and find their wide open big, and lately they've been finding Joel, which is why his FG% this year is a stupid 81.0% Yes that's FIELD GOAL, not free throw!

Speaking of free throws, good night Greg Oden's shot is nice. If he can get that up to 75% the rest of the league is in for a collective long night. It still looks like a "big man" free throw, but it's all twine baby!

Wow, Rose went off against the Lakers:
pos min fgm-a 3pm-a ftm-a +/- off def tot ast pf st to bs ba pts
D.Rose G 35:41 11-18 1-2 2-2 -20 0 3 3 9 1 0 2 0 3 25
I guess we had a better game plan against that kid.

I'm as excited as anyone about the good start but the team needs to improve to win 50 games and make the playoffs. There aren't going to be many easy wins like last night. I'm not going to get all giddy about one easy win because I expect more.

What I could not get out of my mind for most of that game was the following thought:
"This is gonna be a LONG Youtube highlight video."
Did I just witness the Generals vs The Globetrotters?
Crazy.
I hope the players now understand what it takes to be a dominant team, and how hard you have to work on the defensive end to make that happen - especially from the get-go to set the tone.
I hope we beat Sactown and not lose the focus gained from this win.
Here is a short video of the carnage from NBA.com.

You guys did more than just destroyed us, you murder us. The Bulls have no front court and you guys did what any good team would do, exploit it.
50 wins should be easy for your team. Oden been out and he is gonna be a force on the glass and defensive side. Rudy wasn't there last year either. You guys are very exciting to watch.
I do agree though that the score could of been much worse
Good luck the rest of the way guys

Oden2 wrote:First of all, I want to point out that this Bulls team is much better than they played tonight. I see a lot in this team and a few years down the road, they'll be a quality team. They still have some rough patches to sort out, but right now, they still have a very strong chance to make the playoffs in the east. Once Derrick Rose shows more consistency, there's no way opposing teams stop him.
I disagree. Not that they are as bad as a 42 point loss, no team is. But as for seeing a lot? I don't want to just sit here and bash on the Bulls, and invite fans to come in and bash us, and vice versa, but I saw one player. Their coach was crap. Their offense is garbage. I know part of that is Gordon seemingly hogging the ball, but there seemed to be no offensive flow to the team.
Noah is a 15-20 minute per night player on a good team. They took him in the lotto.
Tyrus Thomas is like taking Travis Outlaw his rookie year, and then taking away BBIQ, if that is possible. All jumping and running. No real shot, and no real ability to do much, it doesn't seem. Very poor dribbling, low intelligence, etc. Just looked clueless. I know he hasn't gotten as much burn as they would haev liked previously, but if he had, my guess is it would have just led to his option not being picked up, and him sliding further down the bench. If I'm the Bulls, I'm trying to talk up his athleticism, and trading him to a GS or NY as quickly as possible. Maybe to the LAC in a package for Kaman. He just looks like he hasn't a clue. I caught some boxscores from earlier, and thought maybe he was doing decent, but then, if you just looked at his points and rebounds from last night, you might think he looked decent. Yuck.
Gooden is blah and probably won't be on the team past thi syear, with his expiring contract. Hughes shouldn't be in the NBA, let alone starting.
Sefolosha reminds me of Sergio last year. A lot of hype on RealGM about his ability, and then comes out following that, adn gets exposed. He looked terrible as well. I dunno how he would play SG for them, he looks to have worse handles than Martell of 2 years ago, and we certainly don;t even want Martell at SG now. But, Sergio was able to improve over the offseason, Sefolosha obviously could as well. But didn't look like he knew how to run and dribble at the same time. Or dribble and walk.
Rose is the lone bright spot on that team, and he looked easily rattled by the pressure last night. He's a rookie, so that's to be expected. He's already a good PG, and I would love to have him. Just curious what we were doing differently than other teams. The full court pressure wasn't a hue detriment to him. It made him work harder, but even in a half court set, he couldn't get by Blake, and Blake's D is overrated around many Blazer boards. But still, he should have just shot 40 times last night. Things couldn't have been worse.
VDN didn't seem like a good game coach, seems to be the consensus from the Bulls baord as well, although he has only been around 10 games or so.
Overall, I know it is one bad game, so to make wide reaching assessments off of it is unfair, but a few of the things I saw just don't seem correctable. That team absolutely needs to fire Paxson. I have been telling my friends in Chicago this for 3 years now, and they kept on pointing to their slight improvements each year. Now they're on board. I don't know of good decisions he has made, but I know he hasn't built a team to compete there. He needs to be fired yesterday. His only chance is to pull an Ainge. Build a mediocre team, look like garbage in most you do, get widely ridiculed, and then get an old friend to bail you out. So maybe Paxson will be making atrade with Charlotte, and his old teammate Michael Jordan?

Had the Bulls had Deng and Hinrich, it would have been a different outcome. Still a win for Portland, but probably not by 42 points. Chicago is not a bad team, but they're also not a good team at this point either. They have some nice pieces, but need more.

Of all the fun to be had last night in the Rose Garden, I think my favorite part might have been Noah going to the bench with five fouls in the last few seconds of the first half, and all the fans booing. Nobody likes Joakim Noah.

Ah man, we all wanted them to leave him in and foul out before halftime.
Some maniacal Bulls fan in an MJ throwback got all rowdy next to us and started cheering like a madman when they were down 40 in Q4. He was on point and having a grand ol' time.
Return to Portland Trail Blazers
