Lucas still out/AC Green?

Post#1 » by shamelessblazer » Fri Nov 21, 2008 2:43 am

Jason Quick said today in his chat that Lucas "isn't near" returning to the bench yet. Seeing as how our team really has no big man coach (other than him who was more size than technique). Could we use someone else to kick LMA's butt to play aggressive and push Channing around? Someone to make GO excited/challenged? What about AC Green?

He always played hard and gave everything he had. He was an all-star who made much of a rather limited natural ability by playing very hard and aggressive. He became a good passer w/ very high IQ, and fantastic defender on running teams.

The guy is from Portland, graduated from Oregon State, is a very loyal guy with high "character" (though some may not like how outspoken he is, he does seem humble), and I haven't heard anything about what he's doing now.

He and Nate are contemporaries so I would think they would be familiar with one another, and they both played such a scrappy game I would imagine they'd have a lot of respect for each other.

I I think it'd be good to have another younger assistant on the bench with the team to help in their maturity and intensity more than some of our other guys (most of whom are more guard associated).

Does AC Green fit the bill?

We don't really need a substitute coach do we? But if Lucas retires, I wonder if Buck Williams or David Robinson have thought about coaching? Being a good player doesn't necessarily make you a good coach, but they seem to have the personality for it. Buck was head of the union, so he must have leadership ability.

I'd have to know if he lost his virginity yet first before I could make a decision.

We just need a coach to make Greg Oden the best center ever. D-Rob would work. Ewing has done a great job with Howard. I guess Aldridge needs some work, but D-Rob could teach him too. He just needs to be tougher and come up with a better arsenal of post moves.

No chance of David Robinson. Avery Johnson is very close to him and could not persuade him to coach in Dallas. Robinson is a Spur for life.

Does AC Green want to coach? He was with Dallas when Dirk was a rookie and made some efforts to toughen him up.

Because my man-crush on Oden requires me to think of him as pure as the driven snow, I feel like AC's virginal presence can provide the sort of abstinence training necessary to keep Greg from thinking impure thoughts and engaging in anything more daring than dirty dancing with hiked-skirted coeds.

I agree but for a different reason. In the wise words of Quagmire, "You take the venom out of a cobra and what do you got? You got a belt!"

Well there a re a few differences: 1) Portland is not a rival, Dallas is. That would be much harder to deal with for Spur fans than if he was in Portland.
2) Dallas didn't have any big men for him to coach. It was basically just Avery trying to get his buddy a job. What was he going to teach Dasagna Diop how to be an all star? Please.
3) Time. It's been a few years since then. Besides playing in the wnba/nba event at the All Star game, what does Robinson do?

And anyway the first call should go to Hakeem.

There is no doubt we need a big man coach on this team, but there are a lot of good big men out there who had ties to the NW who may or may not have better coaching skills
