BE has had this up for a couple of days but with $15, who would we pick.

I've got Porter, Roy, Pippen, Buck and Walton

I saw something about this on Facebook and thought about posting as well! This lineup is all about defense and taking advantage of a huge value in Pippen for 1 dollar!

1st try:

C: Walton (healthy) 5 - 5
PF: Buck 1 - 6
SF: Pippen 1-7
SG: Drexler 5 - 12
PG: Hollins 1 - 13

so, I have a $2 dollar margin.

* I'll stick with the healthy Walton, he was a top-10 C (maybe top-5).

* Buck was a better PF then either Wicks or Aldridge. Personally I think he was better then Rasheed...not better then Lucas though. Rasheed is overrated in that list

* needed to save some money, and the Portland version of Pippen at a dollar is a bargain

* Can't go against Clyde at SG; in fact, I question if a healthy Brandon Roy could have shared the ball as much as he would have needed to on an extremely talented team

* PG was tough, but the gap in cost vs production between Hollins and Dame was too big. Hollins was quicker then Dame, an all-NBA defender, and lethal in transition

*****************************************

so, how about in the "evolved" 3 point-happy NBA?

C: Mychal Thompson - 3 - 3
PF: Buck (somebody needs to be low usage, rebound, and play defense) 1 - 4
SF: Kiki (easy choice) 4 - 8
SG: Petrie 3 - 11
PG: Porter (he's not as good as Hollins on defense but was still pretty good) 4 - 15

is that starting 5 better then:

C: Sabonis 4 - 4
PF: Buck 1 - 5
SF: Kiki 4 - 9
SG: Paxson 1 - 10 (a slight downgrade from Petrie but a third of the cost)
PG: Dame 5 - 15

I might go with the 2nd lineup, although it would be a poor defensive unit

or Walton, Buck, Kiki, Petrie, Hollins - 14 dollars and a great balance between perimeter offense, transition, and defense

fun game

Rod Strickland
Brandon Roy
Scottie Pippen
LaMarcus Aldridge
Bill Walton

The value for a lot of these guys is off and in some cases a lot. Robinson does not belong in the top tier nor does Pippen belong in the bargain bin and Lucas is to high.

The correct answer is

C: Bill Walton (5)
PF: Buck Williams (1)
SF: Scottie Pippen (1)
SG: Clyde Drexler (5)
PG: Rod Strickland (2)

I think I can argue just choosing the $1 players gives me:

Hollins, Paxson, Pippen, Buck and Brian Grant

Yeah a lot of the 1 dollar players are way underrated in this picture. I think they went by positions which gave certain players like Cliff Robinson more credit than they deserved whereas guys like Pippen got knocked down big time. If I weren't doing a 5 man lineup I'd probably just spend 10-12 bucks on the starting lineup and add a couple dollar players off the bench

Walton $5
Buck $1
Pippen $1
Drexler $5
Stoudamire $3

Buck and Pippen for $1 each are steals.

I definitely considered that option. I was torn between Rod and Damon, and I preferred Pippen over Kersey and Buck over Wicks regardless of the cost.

Torn between:
C Walton
PF Rasheed
SF Pippen
SG Roy
PG Felton
Love the Walton/Rasheed frontcourt

C Walton
PF Buck
SF Pippen
SG McCollum
PG Lillard

Real value IMO:
Buch =1
Pippen= 1
CJ =2

I don't see the salary cap getting this low in the modern NBA unless we dont do something about the darn Warriors

I would have to go with

$5 - Clyde
$4 - Sabas
$3 - LA (ugh)
$2 - Hot Rod
$1 - Pip
$0 - Shawn!

C. Sabas
F. LA
F. Pip
G. Clyde
G. Strickland

Yeah, that would be a nice one to watch :)

$5 - Lillard
$3 - Petrie
$1 - Pippen
$2 - Wicks
$4 - Sabonis

Got shooters, passers, rebounders, and a whole lot of talent. I'm not familiar with Petrie's defense, but I'm guessing it wasn't anything to write home about? My front court defense is decent though.

not to single you out because you're one of several and this is all fantasy anyway, but I'm curious about your selection of Strickland. Now, don't get me wrong...I liked Strickland's stint as the Blazer starting PG. He averaged close to 9 assists a game as a Blazer; better then that, his assist/turnover ratio was around 2.8...that's excellent considering how much the ball was in his hands.

but to me, that's the problem....he had to have the ball to be effective. Look at your teams...you have Pippen, Clyde, and Sabas. That play-making trio would be incredible. A lot of people may have forgotten, or not realized, how good a passer Clyde was; he averaged about 6 assists/game as a Blazer and one season averaged 8. And we know how good Pippen and Sabonis were. But those 3 guys would need touches; they were all kind of like Batum in that they were capable and willing to have quick touches. That would work as they 'relayed' the ball around the offense

but Strickland wasn't much in the way of quick touches. He used shot clock and that would work against the rest of those starters, especially Drexler and Pippen. Strickland was like Chris Paul in that regard. Worse though is that unlike Paul, Strickland was a poor perimeter shooter, even though he didn't do terrible work from deep his last couple of seasons as a Blazer. Because of that, Chris Paul is a lousy comp for Strickland; unfortunately, Rajon Rondo is a much more accurate comp, and there sure doesn't seem to be a good fit between Rondo and today's NBA

I thought about Strickland but I rejected him for those reasons. My first thought was a healthy Walton, Buck, Pippen, and Clyde as a unit with Lionel Hollins as as the PG. That would have been a great all-era team. I probably would have preferred Porter, but with the $3 difference between Porter and Hollins, Terry was just too expensive. It helps that I saw Hollins play, a lot, and I think he's grossly underrated among all time Blazer PG's. He certainly was about 3 tiers better as a defender then any Blazer PG not named Don Buse, and Hollins in transition was unstoppable.
**************************************************************

of course, a "healthy" Walton was a rare beast indeed. A Porter-Clyde-Pippen-Buck-Sabas team comes in at $15. That's a great team on both ends of the floor. Also, as long as I'm downgrading at C, maybe a concession to today's NBA is that the team needs mobility at C, so Thompson-Buck-Pippen-Clyde-Dame comes in at $15 too

besides Hollins, another Blazer who is vastly underrated is Bob Gross. That Cliff, Batum, and Woods are SF options while Gross isn't is loopy

wait a minute...did you just combine Wicks and defense without an LOL? Sorry DVM, but Sidney was maybe worse on defense then Dame, most times. Yeah, it's true that most teams didn't worry about defense in those days, but Wicks took that to another level. In fact, IIRC reading correctly, Wooden even benched Wicks a couple of times (for short periods) at UCLA because of his effortless defense. If you want good frontcourt defense, waive Wicks, sign Buck, and apply the extra dollar elsewhere

It looks like Billy did the same thing I did and picked a player from each dollar amount just once or at least that is what I did. Had I understood the rules a little better I would have gone with Porter before picking Rod. I would have also gone with Buck over Aldridge although I do believe LMA would fit well next to Walton.

Pippen

Drexler
Kersey
Walton

Obviously some guys playing out of position but This team represents the best bang for your buck imo. Pippen Kersey and cj are immensely underrated By the dollar values they are assigned. I also considered buck and Strickland

$2 McCollum
$4 Roy
$1 Pippen
$3 Aldridge
$5 Walton

This is slightly breaking the rules, but I think McCollum is actually a PG and a brilliant fit next to Roy.

Pippen for $1 feels like robbery.

I don't really want to buy Aldridge, but the fit is really good.
