Oregonlive, (who no longer allows comments to be posted), published this silly opinion letter, from a fan who said we made the wrong moves, complained that we blew up a contending team. But that's a shallow point of view.
If we had "stood pat" this offseason, our rotation, assuming we have the same injuries and sign Anthony, our lineup right now would be something like:
Dame/Simons
CJ/Trent Jr
Harkless/Turner
Anthony/Aminu
Leonard/
Who honestly things that squad would be performing any better. Just look at the center position.

Re: If we had stood pat
Aminu's being injured and out for months.
Turner's been so bad that he managed to fall out of a tanking team's rotation.
And finally Meyers being the best bigman on a roster

CBA wouldn't have allowed us to keep last year's team together. At least two of Hood/Kanter/Curry had to go.

Aminu didn't have to go. Of course, this is only true if money is no object, which we know money is a limiting factor unless SPAM is in play.
Supposedly, Kanter was the team's top choice with our tax-MLE, but he didn't accept the offer fast enough. What would have happened if Kanter accepted that offer? What if Kanter got the MLE and Hood accepted the $4.2M non-bird exception, which is only $1.5M less than what he got? Maybe only 1 of those 3 had to go if Kanter accepted his offer.

I don't like crossing Aminu out because of an injury. Had they stayed pat, Aminu wouldn't have been in the position of when the injury happened. Not saying he couldn't have gotten injured in Portland, obviously every player can get hurt at any moment. But to say, well this guy got hurt on his old team, so it would have happened here... nah...

Correct. Aminu had bird rights. But I doubt management would have paid to bring him back - Ghost of Olshey's 2016 off-season spending spree.
I doubt Hood would have stayed in Portland for less than the tax MLE. the league values shooting, as seen by what the Mavericks offered Seth Curry.
Had the Blazers retained Kanter instead of Hood, they would need shooting to replace Hood and Curry. The Turner/Bazemore swap probably still happens, as do the Herzonia and Tolliver signings. At that point, Olshey would be shopping Leonard and Harkless for a 2/3. I can't imagine that ending well. The Blazers only landed Whiteside because bigs are out of favor right now.

Re: If we had stood pat
Portland could have kept Aminu, Turner, Harkless and Leonard for this year, and one of Kanter/Hood. They apparantly tried to keep Kanter and failed. I just really don't think we'd be any better off at this point if they had done that.
I think we are easily a 50 win team if we were fully healthy. Though it is a bit disappointing that we couldn't at least crack .500 with all the money we're paying to Dame/CJ/Whiteside. This team has underachived a bit, even considering the injuries.
Perhaps part of the problem is how god awful the supporting cast was, Bazemore, Tolliver and Herzonja in particular.

You have to include Simons in there. Like those 3, he has been right in that mix of putrid/non-existent, this year.

Ya, he is getting a pass still because of preseason hype. I was right there hyping too. He has not been good this season. Trent is a much better player at this point and as they are the same age, I don't really see why we anointed Simons and still see Jr as a throw-in.
Swing guys who can hit a spotup 3 at 40% and have the size to defend SG and SF are in demand. Once, or if, Trent improves his defensive BBall IQ he could be a true 3/D. He has the size and bulk to guard SF and footspeed to stick with 75% of SG's. The kid has potential.
