Should Olshey be fired?
I've wanted him gone for years but the past 6 months leave no question in my mind that the guy should go
- refuses to trade CJ to upgrade the team
- trades a restricted free-agent with a small cap-hold for a slightly better player at the same position who is now an unrestricted free-agent
- takes no responsibility for the teams performance. Pins the blame on Stotts and the players.
- bungles the coaching hire and alienates a large portion of the fan base
- leaks information (my speculation) painting Becky Hammons in an unfavorable light
- aggravates the relationship to the team's marquee star
but I'd like to see some numbers on what everybody else thinks

Olshey should have been fired two seasons ago, 2019-2020, when his additions were considerably inferior to his departures.

At this point, I'm boycotting the team until Olshey is fired.

Re: Should Olshey be fired?
being the original conductor of the 'Fire-Olshey' train, I remember driving down the tracks with just the locomotive and having to shovel in the coal by myself. It was a lonely rail I was riding but the view offered clarity. Now, there are 3 more locomotives hooked up followed by dozens of cars filled with Blazer fans. It's a very crowded train now and all the passengers are seeing the clarity I was seeing in 2015.
Unfortunately, the track apparently doesn't go near enough to Seattle to get their attention.
Olshey is a slimy snake-oil disaster but at this point the accountability for the damage he's causing rests in Seattle

Re: Should Olshey be fired?
YES!!!
I just posted in the Billups thread how I think this issue is not likely to "Just go away", and will possibly get much worse. Dames actions combined with the GTJ trade that I still sorta hate, and now this coaching hire whether he knew or not of Chauncy's past doesn't matter to me.... He's lost my confidence.
So what to do now JODY? I say simply do the right thing. Show some balls (SEXIST) and Fire Olshey! Do it yesterday! I would immediately reach out to Danny Ainge and Becky Hammon and hire them both! I think Portland would absolutely show you more love than you ever thought was humanly possible.

This is a disaster. Stotts, sure, we all knew that had to come next.
But it's like the team is openly antagonizing Lillard/hanging him out to dry for it all.
Unhappily, I say: he looks like a goner here.

I was always on that train. I didn't like Olshey as a hire back then, and let's just say I never warmed up to him. Some things age like mayonnaise--he's one of them.

Re: Should Olshey be fired?
I don't think Neil has been a good GM during his tenure in Portland. He hasn't been disastrous, but there have been enough blunders to justify moving on from him, and there have been for some time.
I must admit I would feel happy for the team to not be associated with him anymore. I know that there are certain skills a GM needs to be effective, such as being gifted with smoke and mirrors. But there's something about Neil's combination of arrogance and condescension that makes me feel dirty for rooting for the team whenever I see him speak. KP had an ego as well, of course, but he didn't make me nearly as uncomfortable as Olshey. For all the talk about character mattering to Portland, it doesn't seem to apply to the GM.

Olshey should absolutely be fired, he's an embarrassment and is making a mockery of the Blazers franchise. Absolute PR nightmare the last week.
Was listening to a Blazers podcast (I think it was Blazer's Edge, or Locked on) where the host said that the reason Olshey is refusing to trade CJ is because that is his last card to play so he can pawn off the excuses to someone else to preserve his job. He would always have someone else to blame before it gets to him. I agree with the host. First you make trades, that don't work you fire the coach. Doesn't work, you then trade CJ. That press conference where Olshey didn't take any blame for his role in the roster construction and blamed it on Slotts was absolutely disgraceful.
As a Raptor and now Blazers fan it's absolutely unbelievable watching how Masai Ujiri and Neil Olshey operate. When the Raptors kept getting bounced in the playoffs year after year, Masai would open his year end press conference by saying "this is all on me, I take the full blame for our roster construction. We will get better, we won't be stuck in no man's land (7th-10th in the standings), our goal is to always play to win, to win a championship".

I definitely miss Pritchard. It was an exciting time with him at the helm. He was always looking for ways to improve the roster and didn't hesitate to execute when he found them. He was willing to take risks, and always had a pleasant demeanor around the media that just kinda made you feel at ease.

Then you should really miss Bob Whitsitt or “Trader Bob”. Granted he was the author of the JailBlazer teams and signed a sex offender (sound familiar) in Ruben Patterson, but he put together some very competitive teams.

Right now, I’d say I miss Trader Bob too.

Nothing.
I’ve bought several.
Wouldn’t buy one from Olshey though.
