Snell to the Blazers

Post#1 » by Blazers98 » Tue Aug 3, 2021 10:22 pm

Tony Snell is now a Blazer.
Capable 3 and D veteran wing which we sorely need.
Hopefully we got him on a good contract.

Dame / Simons
CJ / Mclemore
Powell / Snell
ROCO / Little
Nurkic / Zeller

Weakest spot is now the backup PF?

The good news is that the Blazers NBA store is sold out of Snell jerseys.
The bad news is that the Blazers NBA store has never sold nor intends to sell Snell jerseys.

Jokes aside, this is a fine signing presuming it's a veteran minimum contract. Would have preferred bringing Hood back, but you're still talking about end of the bench depth. More disappointed that the Blazers didn't make a move (yet) to appease Dame.

Like I said earlier you can never have too many shooters but this is just another guard that can’t play the point and can’t play inside. I don’t totally understand the roster construction but like Neil said that’s not the issue with this team. I would imagine some more bigs are on the way but knowing olshey he’s perfectly content with what we got there. Especially since the bigs we have are known for their flawless injury history

At least he’s not a tweener. I wanted snell awhile back for his defense, i think hes a solid addition & a 16 mpg rotation guy, now i like the mclemore signing less though.

I think snell can play sf at least, I just wish we could undo the mclemore contract now as i think snell is more useful to us & we need size bad. But hey we always say that right?

I mean the bench unit was pretty damn garbo last year all things considered, ANY moves to help the bench unit in depth and talent are a big plus to me.

It felt like once the starters went out almost every good team would capitalize against us.

Yeah anything to help the team indeed. But would be nice if we had some semblance of a normal team rather than trying to win with tweeners as sometimes you need size to create mismatches

Bench unit for sure was lacking last year, I really think one of cj/powell needs to be a sixth man but im doubtful that will be the case given the money we just spent on norman & continue to spend on cj

On the surface, Snell looks like a decent role player, during the regular season, but his production and minutes fall off a cliff in the playoffs - which is where Dame needs help. Dame, CJ, Norm and an occasionally healthy Nurk is enough to get the Blazers to the post season, but to say Snell disappears in the playoffs is putting it mildly.

In his last three post seasons:

2.7 ppg, .396 TS%
0.6 ppg, .417 TS%
0.6 ppg, .156 TS%

He is also a negative defender, over the course of his career, in the post season. Sure, he was cheap and someone needs to hold down the end of the bench, but I'm not seeing much help here, on either end of the floor, when it matters.

Problem is that Morey is waiting out Portland for Dame.

I don't really see that as a game of chicken where one or the other will blink. Portland is not going to trade Dame for Simmons, even if Dame asks out imo. Simmons isn't THAT good and doesn't want to play in Portland anyway. On the flip, Morey is a subborn a-hole who's more than happy to hold out and force Simmons' hand to come back if need be. So I have a hard time imagining either side blinking with that.
