Amazing what Golden State has been able to pull off with Klay and Wiseman out. That end of the half was brutal.

Dame with a bad half.

Some make their millions through hard work.
Some inherit it.
Some get lucky.
I made my millions by betting against the Blazers on the road.

they’re good but i don’t know if they’re talent enough to win a title and they’re getting old

remember in 2016 when the Blazers had their feel-good end of the season by beating the injured Clippers before getting boat-raced by the Warriors? 5 & 1/2 seasons ago; the gap between the teams was large but there was plenty of hope Portland could close the gap with good management of the roster and wise use of salary cap-space, while the team matured. Dame was only 26 years old. Then the idiot 2016 spending spree happened

well, 5 & 1/2 years later and the gap between the two teams looks even wider than it was back then. Portland's trajectory has been flat-lined by a bad GM and absentee ownership; and 26 year old Dame is now 31 year old Dame

I only watched part of the game last night. I just don't care that much anymore. That wouldn't have happened 5 years ago, but a decade of Olshey-style mediocrity has gutted my Blazer enthusiasm of 50 years. It's at the lowest ebb

whether you agree or not, one thing to keep in mind: "the roster isn't the problem"

Blazers are going to start looking a lot better than they really are. 15 of the next 20 games are at home so they should really start padding their won/loss record. Of course, that means 26 of their last 42 games are on the road...UH OH

The Blazers were always a poor man's Golden State, with Curry/Klay/Green being considerably better than Dame/CJ/Nurkić. Once Golden State signed Durant, the "poor man's Golden State" comparison became invalid.

Portland's real failures under Olshey were 1) never taking any risk and 2) trying the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. The thing is that, thanks almost entirely to Dame, the franchise has won more games than it has lost, remained profitable, and has one of (if not the) longest streak of making the playoffs. This helps ensure job security, especially in a situation with a more hands-off ownership.

I looked to this matchup as the first real testing, for how we look as a team this year. Obviously not good and we have a long way to go, but this game SHOULD help identify some weaknesses, IF they watch the tape.

I think we will continue to look bad for the most obvious of reasons... The Dame / CJ pairing. Neither one is a true PG, but to the contrary, they are both very much SHOOTING GUARDS. To Dame's credit he has been trying hard to adapt more of a PG approach, but retards back to the Hero-Ball (natural for a true SG). CJ is CJ, and a higher % on less shots would always be better.

Love the changes Chauncey is trying to instill ("Above the Neck"). Love the play from Powell, Simons, Little and Nance. Wish we could play even faster, and bigger starting ROCO at the 3, but I think we need one more solid Big-Man (Not Zeller) to do that. Nurkic, ROCO and Nance is nice, but A, K.Love addition (or something similar) sure would be sweet.

Hopefully Chauncey's new style will eventually catch on more consistently, and I really hope he continues to evaluate the roster as he has done. I'm done with Zeller and Snell for anything but Emergency/IR use, purely 3rd string. We still need one more reliable 6'9+ player that can contribute in the post, and should try to play guys like Little and ROCO more at the 3. Rotate the guards, even more often than Chauncey already has been. Faster, but also, Bigger and Longer. That is the key, and simply... SUB MORE OFTEN.

Dame / Simons
CJ / Powell
ROCO / Little
???? / Nance
Nurkic / ????

Just to add, I also agree with the posters above. Olshey is the ultimate issue! The Golden State Story is what makes it so clear. Instead of doing like GS and trading their then top player in Monte Ellis when they saw diamonds in Curry, and drafting Klay.... Portland had their Curry (light) in Dame, but drafted CJ and then locked both up FOREVER.

Mediocre but solid success as a team, and seemingly never losing money as a smaller market sports franchise, but this team as constructed should never expect much more than we've seen. In fact... Dame's decline I fear, is getting near.
