I think a good offseason would involve signing a decent SF like Batum. Signing Powell. And trading DJJ + a pick for Larry Nance Jr. Then sign another solid PF. Say they get Blake Griffin, Paul Millsap, Jeff Green, or someone similar, that's a solid team

Lillard/Simons
CJ/Little/Elleby
Powell/Batum/Brown
Covington/Griffin
Nurkic/Nance Jr/Free agent

Then if CJ is traded for Simmons that would make for some entertaining lineups.

Agree. That looks fine. Batum would be a great signing and fit nicely.

1) We can only offer Batum 5.3M MLE, he will get offers of more money and from better teams.
2) I dont see why Powell would want to stick around as a 6'4 SF unless we are paying him above market. Why waste your prime out of position getting bullied by 6'8 guys every night?
3) DJJ + FRP likely doesnt get you Nance, CLE management is in love with the guy. One of the few players that actually wants to be in Cleveland.
4) Why would Griffin leave BRK for a BAE/VM deal on a worse team? He is in ring chase mode. Might be able to swing Jeff Green at BAE, but even he likely gets offers from better clubs.

Dont see much realism here to be honest.

I was thinking last night about what we could parlay CJ and dame into, and i realized we could potentially land both Simmons and Siakam while retaining our own picks if we do a three team deal.

PDX out: Dame and CJ
PDX in: Simmons, Siakam, Thybull

Tor out: Siakam
Tor in: CJ plus 4 first round picks and swaps from PHI

Phi out: Simmons, Thybull, 4 first round picks and swaps
Phi in: Dame

Resign Powell, and sign D. Rose

New Team
Rose
Powell/ Thybull
Simmons/ DJJ
Siakam/ Roco
Nurk/ ?

We go from second best offense to best defense in the league.

If we move Dame, its for a rebuild. That team isnt going anywhere. Pascal and Ben are not the types that can lead you in the playoffs, and neither can consistently create easy shots for themselves. In fact, I think Rose would be the crunch time scorer for us in this scenario and that just doesnt cut it in the PO's.

Personality and leadership matters and Pascal / Simmons just totally lack those two traits.

As far as talent goes that’s still adding 2 all star/ all nba players. And like I said, that’s the best defensive team in the league. If you wanted to go full suck for the next 2-5 years, then you’d go for picks, but you’re trying to get players of that caliber in the draft anyways. I don’t have any faith in Olshey’s ability to draft so if he stays drafting ain’t gonna help much

Sounds like the vibe around the league is that powell is expected to resign per hollinger

Not picking up Collins' QO helps, but the Blazers would still likely need to move DJJ for a cheaper player if the goal is to retain Powell without paying luxury tax.

Feels like that’d cost us a pick at this point. Or a stretch

Stretching would make a lot more sense from an asset standpoint than including a pick. But I could see something underwhelming like DJJ+cash (to make up the salary difference) for Rodney McGruder or some other "not a difference maker" veteran on a losing team.

Wish we had some seconds to use but olshey obviously doesn’t hold those more than 2 seconds

Stretching is nice but feels like it lasts forever. Nicholson is on the books still

Ideally Portland would package 1-2 1sts with DJJ's salary and bring back an upgrade, but that doesn't seem like something Olshey would do. But he has stretched players in the past to avoid paying luxury tax due to roster composition mistakes he made.

Blazers got recently rid of Varejao's stretched deal, so maybe it's the time to fill that inconsolable void.

Nicholson feels very lonely as a dead weight on Blazers books, I heard.

batum would be a nice signing but no way that alone is a move that tells lillard we want to win now

GTJ signs a 2 + 1 (po) deal for 54 mil, about the price i expected but only 2 guaranteed years is kind of brutal for toronto and if we can lock norman for 3 or 4 guaranteed years at a similar rate or maybe a bit more i think we can walk away from this with our heads held safely high

From the most casual of fans whose attention to the Blazers has waned since 2018 how the team still so capped out and unable to do anything in FA in what seems like every year. Sure we have Lillard and McCollums max deals but it seems that in this day and age teams with two max deals have made much more moves then the Blazers i.e. Lakers and 76ers
