So far I’m pleased with Clingan. Seems to have a pretty natural feel for the game for the most part. High BBIQ and better passer than expected. Offense will still be a work in progress but if he can be a better passing Pryzbilla in his rookie year for like 25min a game, that’s good enough imo. I also expect him to get starting reps when Ayton inevitably goes down with injuries.

Seems more than ready for real NBA minutes out of the gate.

Random note, but I was at the game tonight right behind the bench. Time lord was there courtside (along with Dalano, Shaedon, DA with his baby, Toumani and coach Chauncey tonight.

Thought it was relevant as he was walking around fine and wearing all Blazers gear. I say all this to say we are probably keeping him around lol.

I’m personally pretty excited about a center who doesn’t need the ball in their hands to be effective.

I know I keep harping on it, but with Scoot, Sharpe, Ant, Grant and Ayton on the roster—all players that are at their best with the ball in their hands—the Blazers NEED players that can be high level complimentary players. Enter Deni and Clingan.

Of course I want the efficiency to be there, and I believe he’ll be better by the end of his rookie deal. Does he have ball-magnet hands? No, and likely won’t…but he plays within himself and 100% impacts the game for the better in ways that don’t show up in the box. I’m happy with the pick, and I wasn’t a super Clingan guy…

I love being right about Bub Carrington. What a steal for the Wiz…

Matas will likely be fine. Watching him today, he made some really, really bad plays and some really good plays. His shot will always be the thing that will be the question. I have no FOMO on Matas because I believe there will be better, similar players available in the draft next year.

I feel for Sarr and Wiz fans. Can’t be a good feeling. He’s easily been the biggest disappointment so far…
Same with Holland and Detroit fans. Holland looks exactly like he did in the G to me…a slightly undersized, chucker. I don’t really buy his defense.

He wouldn't be a bad piece to hang onto honestly. He's injury prone but worst case we let his contract expire. He was pretty impactful when he played and if he can stay healthy in a 20 mpg sort of role he would be a useful guy to have around

In regards to clingan, I'm of the school of if you can impact the game without scoring there's a use for you in this league especially a big man. Now hopefully clingan can get his jumper down over time. If he can play elite defense and put up 15-20 a night on decent efficiency he may well be the best pick in this draft. But I feel like even what he's shown already he has a place in this league, the only question is whether he will be a role player or a solid starter which could be accomplished by refining his offensive game. Honestly just the same 12 ppg on solid defense is enough for me but there's gotta be a few jumpers and maybe a 3 every night to keep defenses honest

Like a giant'er Adams with far better offensive feel.

There’s a very good chance the Blazers chose the wrong big. Edey’s defensive awareness and ability to not foul with quick hands is elite. Add that to his unreal screen setting and his impact will be felt on both sides of the ball from day 1. As you said like a jumbo Steven Adams.

We’ll see with Clingan, but I worry about his foul rate and ability to stay on the floor. And he’s slower than Edey.

Memphis got themselves a steal.

I think there is a very good chance everything you said is correct. We gambled on youth while also betting on convention as Clingan as a defender is more conventional than the skillset Edey brings. I think we end up being wrong.

Clingan doesn’t have a huge foul rate, is faster than eddy with much better defensive potential.

Eddy is a good offensive player, but he is nearly unplayable defensively in space. Clingan is dpoy potential player

Y’all realize that Memphis was desperate to trade up for Clingan and would have taken him at 1 if they had the pick.

There are a few tams that have been heavily engaged, but I haven't heard of anything Blazer-centric with traction. Portland still likes their guys and is waiting for a deal that suits their goals. No interest from Portland in making a deal to make it. They would love to make a trade, but they won't do it unless they get real value.

Thanks for sharing GB!

The BOLD is my concern. It is probably not "fair", but I think I have fan PTSD from the Olshey era. He held onto players way to long because of his emotional bias.

My sense is that Cronin is likely more interested in getting nest value, which I can appreciate, but I am firmly on the "capture the Flagg, or Ace Bailey" camp.

I guess I just have to trust the Crone Zone. I just want the Blazers to eventually have nice things.

The thing I keep forgetting about between Clingan and Edey is the age gap--I'm happy with the DC pick after watching him outside of a college setting.

I think both Edey and Clingan will be good, and very unique. I expect both to at minimum be top-15 centers.

Clingan clearly is a much better defender and way better shotblocker. He isnt just tall, long and decently athletic but his timing on blocking shots is pretty special. Kessler is similar with just absurd timing but Clingan is bigger, stronger, much tougher IMO and has a better motor.

Think Clingan has a better hope for developing a 3 than Kessler as well.

Interesting that Gobert, Edey and Clingan all have the exact same standing reach of 9'7"...I guess I didn't realize that.

I read “real value” and I immediately think of “unrealistic expectations ” and visions of Olshey blathering on about there just wasn’t a deal to be made come to mind.

Anything more than a 1st for Grant is a win for Portland. Anything more than a 1st for Ant is a win for Portland. Somehow, I think that if Cronin were willing to accept that, they would already be gone from the team.

Trent Jr just signed for a minimum deal because he/his agent badly misjudged the current market, anyone expecting Ant to get premium value in a trade should reflect on that.

And does no one think that it is odd that Grant/Ant/Thybulle are the only blazer players who haven’t been down to visit the team in summer league?
