I do think that there is a reality where Jody wants to keep longterm payroll at a minimum to make the sale more attractive to potential buyers. I would certainly think that the idea would be more realistic if she had announced that the team was for sale LAST year, however. I have heard it bandied about that it'll likely take 9-18 months for a sale to go through.

Crolshey can do A LOT of damage in that time. He already screwed up the tank, which set the team back probably 3-5 years. Now he's on the precipice of pulling a Utah and trying to be good too early in the rebuild, which will set the team back even further.

Let's just all hope that Jody gives him a directive of no additional new money on the books until ownership is in place. With any luck, that would force Cronin's resignation.

I think the odds of this are a bit better than offering significant extensions to players like Simons/Ayton

I mentioned this before but i think they're gonna keep salary low, but also they need their pick back desperately. Selling a team without control of it's own picks has to lower the value somewhat I would imagine. We will get our pick back this summer, I'm willing to bet anyone money on that. My hope is that it's not for 11, the Milwaukie picks. Maybe Bostons? Maybe Ayton and a few seconds for Vuc and our pick?
Or trade for Zion... :(

Hopefully we don't give away #11 in that trade.

Honestly though Case, given our pick to Chicago is protected, I don't think it makes a huge difference.

If we were competing it'd be really annoying as it hamstrings us (thanks Olshey). But we're building currently so I don't think it's THAT bad of a liability.

You are worrying over nothing here.

We are talking about a $3.5-$4B team sale and you are worrying about a single outstanding pick that might be worth ~$5-10M?

To put this into context -> if your car is worth $35,000 -> you are worrying about a $100 taillight. No one driving their car makes significant decisions because their taillight is out. They might drive a little more cautious - but that is all.

It's not really about that one pick. It's the fact we can't trade any to make big moves. Someone buying the team is gonna want control over the teams future, and having control of our picks is the best way to do that. That and keeping salaries low.

Seeing how long it takes for a sale to go through, the Blazers may convey the pick by then.

Just saying. The first thing the new Suns owner did was trade for KD like day 1. Taking bets we get it back this summer.

if Portland does convey the pick sometime in the next 3 drafts (after 2025), it will very likely be as an 8th seed in the west. Meaning it would be in the 15th-17th pick range. Chicago won't let Portland buy their way out of that corner with 2nd round pick(s). Portland would have to add some notable incentive. One normal way to incentivize a trade is to take on bad salary. Bulls don't have any bad salary except for maybe Patrick Williams, and considering they only have 135M in guaranteed salary next season, and 35M in 2026-27, there's no compelling reason for them to trade Williams

I really don't see a good option for Portland to get out of this situation in an inexpensive manner other than making the playoffs

Olshey was fired in 2021. That the dumba$$ Nance trade of his could still be haunting the Blazers in 2028 is disgusting

This does suck. Maybe the gave a shot if the Blazers incorporate the Bulls in 3 team deal. Something like a current pick going to Chi and the Blazers pick coming back?

I think it's a bit weird that there are no rumors yet as to potential buyers.

Extending Simons wouldn't be so terrible as long as we also got a nice piece for Scoot Henderson. Like if we dealt 11,Ayton,Scoot for Zion or Sabonis for example.

It’s been like two weeks. It’s absolutely not weird in the slightest there’s no rumors yet. We didn’t know who the Celtics buyer was, or even potential buyers, for months.

Ya’ll need some patience.

Wait til the season is over. I suspect late July or August will be when we start getting some names leaking.

The Trump economy might make it difficult to find a quick buyer for the Blazers, especially if the country
heads into a recession

Naw, recessions are for poor/middle class people. Rich people, like the really rich, use them to acquire assets.

Those relatively poor and middle class people however buy a lot of the seats on the 300 level at the MC

I for one would be unbelievably disappointed if the Blazers opted to trade Scoot, #11 and Ayton’s expiring money for 30 games a year of Zion.

I suppose with no PG and no center depth, and Deni getting pushed to the bench for those 30 games, the Blazers would likely be a bottom 3 team next season…so, another chance at an actual franchise player. Of course in doing so it would likely mean also saying bye-bye to Deni. I highly doubt he’d want to resign with the Blazers after being forced to play second-fiddle to Zion’s spectre.
